All right, to your memory problem:
Dont know if you can risk installing the SP, but in its changelist a fix of a memory leak is mentioned. Could solve your problem. If problem remains:
I am not a friend of randomly trying this and that. I prefer to analyse and then solve the problem. As Greg wrote, there are different kinds of memory. So please use process explorer to try to get more information. Which process uses much ram, swap space ...? View the dlls loaded from msp8. From which manufacturer do they come? (Ulead and MS is ok, others are suspicious.)
Looking into windows event log is also often a good idea.
