crashes crashes and more crashes!
i'm running service pack 2 for ms7, p4 3gig processor, 512mb ddr ram, yet frequently when i try to simply open up a video project using video editory, or add a video / audio filter, the program stops responding and i get the box telling me to report this error to microsoft. i've found that if i want five to ten minutes after opening the program , it generally won't crash when trying to open the video... but this is not something i want to have to put up with multiple times a day!
would this problem be fixed by upgrading to 1GB RAM? any advice/thoughts? thanks!

I, too have many crashes since installing SP2. I don't think it's the computer because I didn't have this problem with MSP7.0
In a otherwise normal condition and without any warning or pattern, a simple click of the mouse and POOF! everything goes black!
The computer reboots as if nothing happened, and if I've remembered to save after every motion I make, everything comes up just as I was.
Last night I was working on a 15 min promo and it happened 7 times, what a time waster!
Anyone else seen this?
Maybe it's the patch. Is there a patch to patch the patch?

Please select Help->About in the menu, what MSP version do you see??
The latest MSP version with SP2 should be v7.20.0006. There were some old SP2 patch before (v7.20.0005). If your version is v7.20.0005, or you have applied the patch before, you can try to remove MSP and install it with the v7.20.0006 SP2 patch only.

There's the picture of my about screen. I don't think that I previously had the other patch installed, since I just bought this program a little less than a month ago. The first thing I did was upgrade to SP2.
If I do uninstall, and then reinstall just to try it out, would all my project files be gone? Thanks for your help!

Hello all,
i didn't worked ver much in the last weeks with MSP7, but with a lot of other fine programs
And here the Microsoft Patch Updates of february, 8 - 2005 caused a lot of trouble - maybe that or one of the other patches irritates MSP, too?
Especially KB891781 caused suddenly a lot of troubles with different programs. See here:
http://fogcreek.com/CityDesk/kb/bugs/Cr ... mplat.html
Perhaps there is a conclusion, when crash series started after february 8, 2005

Hi,
I have both MSt sp2 7.20.0006 as well as MS update KB891781 living together fortunately with no problems.
But time ago - yet before installing the aboves - I had too similar shut downs during editing. Unfortunately I can't remember exactly the concrete circumstances anymore, but I guess it was connected to the activating the multithreading option in the preview windows. Just a hint.

Mediastudio runs out of memory ?
I have seen totday with MSP 7.2 on testing around again and again with the settings of some videofilters and full rendering each time the preview, that MSP crashes with a rest of 7 MB Virtual memory (on rendering about 90 seconds DV-AVI)
I have 512 MB RAM and a 786 MB Swapfile, what was quite enough to handle about 3 hours of AVI files without problems.
MSP starts with about 400 MB RAM free, and after 3 times render with different settings on the same 90 seconds clip the virtual memory is gone. The preview file ist about 300 MB.
Problem is, that the memory isn't freed after the preview, so i have to close videoeditor to get free the virtual and physical memory.
Has somebody had such problem or an explanation, what happens here ?

I encountered a very weird, and troubling problem yesterday.
I opened up Video Editor, worked for a while, then closed Video Editor. A couple minutes later I realized that I needed to do a couple more things, so tried opening it up again. It acts like it is going to open, the mouse comes up with the little hour glass thing, but then after a few seconds it stops doing that, and acts like I never tried to open up the program. I was able to successfully open every other type of MediaStudio program, but when I would select "Switch" and then Video Editor, the same thing would happen. I restarted the computer, and VE opened up fine. Closed VE, tried to open again, and same problem comes back. Restarted computer again, same thing happened. Something seems to be very wrong!

Exactly the same is happening to me too time and time again.
Occasionally it might be, because I open up VE too quickly after exiting it. For it takes quite a few seconds for closing the program completely. In other cases though the reason of such a behavior is not explicable at all. After a new start, however, it works normally in my case.

@ejskater16,
i'm working since 1996 with Ulead MediaStudio in the actual versions and never had problems, which prohibited me to get a final output.
I never had the feeling to work with a "very buggy program"
I tried in between different versions of the 12 Emmy glorified Pinnacle products, what caused only troubles to me, because of their banana product philosophie.
And you may be shure to expect problems with the Adobe products, too. Have a look into the adequate user forums. In my opinion there are more bugs as in MSP, but naturly not the same.
