i have used video studio 8 successfully with my normal analog cam. i have now bought the xacti hd1 and record in the mpeg4 mode. i use the movie factory programme that came with it to burn dvd.
The Xacti records on SD cards and i import the clips to photo explorer 8.5. From there to the factory as is laid out in the owners manual. 2 questions :
1 - Why can I not get a smoothe transition between each clip? there is a split second of black in between. i have never had this problem before with my tape camcorder
2- On the camera the video clips appear perfectly smooth, yet when you write the DVD the smooth panning and zooming on all the clips appears as stutters - as if the programme could not keep up with all the information contained in the clip.
I have tried to convert the clips from mpeg 4 to AVI and Mpeg 2, but there is no difference in the stutters and the way the clips are seperated by the split second of black.
I record in PAL and write in PAL
I have 120 gig free space on the hard drive and have made lots of movies on your excellent video studio 8 without any hitches.

I have the same problem. It seems that the reason is that when rendered by VS, there is a duplicated frame inserted every 6 frames. This makes the pan & zoom so jerky. I did rendered the same files with DrDivX and they are perfeclty ok, no duplicate frame. This may have something to do with the frame rate of the xacti 29.97, but I've tried various combination without success. I'm investigating this and I'll let you know.

Solution found : if your project settings are 25 fps, VS will ALWAYS convert your files to 25 fps before any rendering, whatever the initial source file fps is and whatever the final fps is. (means, if the source it 29.97 and the video is custom 29.97, it will do a 29.97-->25-->29.97 and this produce the jerky result.
Because xacti is 29.97 fps, your project *must* be 29.97 and then everything is perfect !!
