Wrong file format after capture

Using movie maker 3. When I capture vhs it ends up as a windows media file and when I try to edit it a message says the file format is not supported. How do I capture so I get a .dwz format?

Movie Maker 3 (Microsoft Windows)as far as I am aware has not yet been released unless you mean Movie Factory 3. (Ulead)

Please detail how you are importing your VHS into the computer and what settings you have made
