Re-Render of files

Re-Render of files
I made sure the project settings were exactly the same as the file added. When I went to create disc, the project settings remained the same. However, it still wanted to re-render the DVD compliant file.
There were no menus and no editing.

Thanks for your attempt to help, but re-read my post. In both the edit (which I did none) and the 'share' phase, the project settings match the file EXACTLY. Yet it still wanted to re-render the entire file. Don't know why I upgraded to V10. It doesn't work any better.

Sorry Gary -- but the question is still begged: what were the properties of the files which the project now matches exactly? You may be certain that they are what is required to burn a disc. But for those of us who are helping, it would indeed be helpful to know exactly what we are all talking about to know that we are all indeed on the same page... Not meaning any insult by all this, but we do need the information...

Gary,
What is being asked is your source file may not be "Dvd Compliant"
So even when the project properites match the source file, the file still needs to be converted to a DVD compliant Mpeg2 file.
You match your project properties to the same as the source video for editing purposes.
If the source material is "Dvd Compliant" then that's great.
It still needs to be re-rendered if not dvd compliant OR you have edited the file and haven't written a new file.
Or, your going directly to the burning module from the timeline and carrying the timeline video over (not recommended).
Hope this helps,
MD

This has nothing to do with your problem. Just an observation.

Actually most of us were members before that date.
The User Board Software was changed in November 2004
I think it was publically released sometime in December and both board were run in tandem for a while. you will find that a lot of 'new users' will appear to be registered on or about that date.
In fact my 26 Jan 2005 joining date isn't quite accurate because I was on the old board also.

My files are DVD Compliant because they were recorded on a set top DVD recorder by LiteOn. The commercials were edited out using TMPGenc MPEG which does NOT re-encode any files. The other DVD authoring apps I have do not (or can not) match the bitrate so they all re-encode. According to TMPGenc , the file is 352X480 (nonsquare pixels) VBR constant quality @2220Kbps with MPEG audio. The original disc plays fine on 5 different players.
Just my opinion that although software makes certain things really easy, the DVD authoring part still has a long way to go before I can call it 'easy'.

Store the files as MPEG first ...
I had exactly the same problem, was recording from TV on a set top box and cuttiing out the adverts and saving the 'shows' as DVD images until I had enough episodes to warrent a full DVD.
This worked brilliantly in VS9 with the part DVD being built in under a minute.
Do the same in VS 10 and it does convert/re-render the files ( if it doesn't it certainly takes its time about saving the images
)
But if you save the 'part DVDs' as a video file and say store in same format as first video - it saves the video files in under a minute for a 1/2 hr - 1hr show ( ie 20mins or 40 mins )
Then when I import these into a DVD build/share, the come in swiftly and when I build the DVD it doesn't seem to re-render/encode them again.
Have studied the output too closely but it seems to work - let me know what I'm missing

You edited the files using an external editor.
Try editing them in VS and see if the same happens when you burn a dvd.

Pang,
Can you post exactly what your doing in your steps to burn a dvd?

1/ I have 1 MPEG2 file
2/ Import this file into a project
3/ Do nothing
4/ Choose "Create Video File"
5/ Check on the original MPEG2 file properties and adjust the VS V10 plus coversion properties
6/ It works. No re-rendering.
7/ But when choosing "Create Disc", I adjust the same conversion setting to match with the original MPEG2 file properties.
8/ This time, VS V10 plus does the re-rendering
9/ So I do the same test in VS V9. But does not have this problem
10/ FYI, I already match the data rate, audio, etc.

RE-RENDERING
cwu and pangwu, I have run into the same issue.
A few days ago, I fell asleep during a capture of a VHS tape. It was a 136 minute movie but I ended up recording for more than 3 hours.
The capture was through the ADS DVD Xpress DX2 straight to MPEG2. The file was 4.8Gb.
I loaded the into VS10, made sure file and project settings were identical, chopped off the surplus and saved the trimmed video clip. It took 96 minutes to save a file that grew to 7.2Gb.
I repeated the same process in VS9. Saving the trimmed file took 13 minutes and the file was 4.3Gb.
Something isn't right with VS10 ...
