What a waist of money
I bought Movie Factory 4 and was charged $99 to download after their website indicates a price of $49.
Thats just the beginning.
My Media Center came with Evcap Maui Device, which doesn't work with Movie Factory.
So, after searching and questioning even on this forum, I decided since Hauppauge gave Movie Factory away with their tuner card, I would purchase Win Tv PVR 150.
I installed it and got Media Center and Win TV 2000 to work just fine.
Problem is, Uleads Movie Factory 4 and all its products, Record, Burn Now, etc. do not work. The video works fine, but no audio.
I can't understand why Hauppauge would give away Movie Factory 4 with their product when it won't work. I've removed and reinstalled everything. I've worked on this for 8 weeks.
My Media Center came with Creative Soundblaster Audigy. I've dowloaded every stupid file Ulead and Hauppauge recommends, but no audio.
Please don't tell me to use Win TV 2000 and then burn with Movie Factory. That's a stupid cop out. My profile lists everything important, so if there's someone that knows how to fix my problem, please let me know.

Software purchases are always iffy when it comes to getting your money's worth.
I don't think Windows Media Center Edition supports Movie Factory 4.
You might want to look at the Happauge Forum for more info.

Regarding the pricing, there are two prices
1 For those who are updating from an earlier version
1 For those purchasing from scratch.
Regarding the Hauppauge TV card please see:

no audio with ulead and Hauppauge pvr 150
I've already downloaded the updates. My Movie Factory 4 and Hauppage PVR 150 are both less than 3 months old.
The Ulead update for Hauppauge does not recognize that Movie Factory 4 is installed. I've seen other posts about the same problem.

There's alittle confusion here.
The MF4 that comes with the card is probably a bundled SE version.
If MF4 came with a device the speciific driver is in that installation package.
MF4 was $99.00 for the FULL Disc Creator version.
Now it's $79.00 because MF5 is being sold.
I wouldn't advise to have both versions installed. They will conflict loading redunant drivers.
Sound card, depends how your connecting external audio into the capturing device.
You probably need to open the audigy mixer and manually set what port to record on.
The recording port and the monitoring ports can be different. That depends on your audigy mixer settings. Before you start MF4 open up the audigy mixer. Then run MF4, you can toggle to the audigy mixer by holding down the <ALT> key continuously and tapping the <TAB> key to cycle through the open window programs that you want to bring to the front of the display.
In MF4 use the advanced options in the capture module to assign the correct port to record on. There is also an option on the audigy mixer that's a switch, "Monitor while recording". You may/may not need to toggle that on or off. Sometimes causes feedback in the circuitry.
If you installed the Retail version of MF4 Disc Creator you need to install the patches. Many fixes.
As for the pricing "Element 5" will work with you and correct problems.
Hope this helps,
MD

I agree. It makes both companies look bad.I can't understand why Hauppauge would give away Movie Factory 4 with their product when it won't work.
OK, I won't tell you to do that! Please don't tell me to use Win TV 2000 and then burn with Movie Factory. That's a stupid cop out.
But, I will tell you that I use WinTV to capture,
Womble to edit, *
Movie Factory or DVD workshop to author & burn.
... Plus, maybe a couple of other audio / video / imaging programs, depending on what I'm doing.
* Womble is a special-purpose MPEG editor. MPEGs are not meant to be edited, and I had too many problems when editing them with Ulead.

still don't work
Steve, I tried all the links you gave me. I downloaded something .311 and 2043 updates from hauppauge. They screwed my computer up. I had to remove and reinstall Win TV. I downloaded the latest hauppauge decoder, which is pretty old. Nothing works. I just don't get it.
If hauppauge is giving away Movie Factory 4 with their Win PVR 150, then my downloaded copy of Movie Factory 4 should work. Uleads technical support will not return my message. Neither will Hauppauge. I guess I will just write this off as a waste of money and a heck of a lot of time.
Maddrummer3301
I purchased these products seperately, in fact, the reason I bought Win PVR 150 is because I saw that they were including Movie Factory 4 in some packages. I assumed, you know what that means, that buying Win PVR 150 would solve my problems.
NOT
I haven't tried your suggestion yet, but I am about to. I'll let you know if it works.

please note this
When I start Movie Factory 4, then I click on straight to disk. The bottom right hand corner has large green letters "MUTE". i Read somewhere that if you hold down ctrl M this will correct the problem. But, that doesn't work for me.

I agree that Hauppauge and Movie Factory 4 are frustrating to update; however I found Steve's instructions and Links very helpful. In my case my unit is a Hauppauge win tv pvr usb2 and it badly needed updating to my surprise as before Christmas it was working fine. However I had not used it after that.
I called Hauppauge in New York as well after I noted and read Steve's instructions; though it was not a toll free number i found the tech advice to be very helpful. And there was no long wait.
With the Hauppauge, before I updated from the site that Steve provided me with; I talked to their Tech support was advised that i should use the utility "hcwclear" to rid of past remnants of the old apps, drivers etc. and then go to the D/L site as Steve advised and print out the steps to update and read thoroughly before doing the D/L. It was time consuming for me as I am new to capturing and creating a DVD, however I managed to do it and the unit is working well.
I too purchased the Movie Factory 4 after getting the Movie factory 3 with the Hauppauge and did the D/L of the patches per Steve's instructions and have been capturing and creating DVD's again very successfully. I also bought the MF4 CD and am very happy with what I am doing; but I am always wary of possible glitches as I don't do capturing on a regular basis and have to refer to my notes if the grey matter upstairs gets fuzzy should something act strange.
For me though, the biggest frustration was getting the Hauppauge unit to work properly and understand how to do a proper D/L of the updates; however after reviewing Steve's instructions and printing out the D/L site instructions and talking to their tech support I found everything went normal. As a Noob to all of this though, I was not surprised at the bit of challenge it offerred me.
Hauppauge updates are definitely not a cake walk, however once installed properly I would use no other unit as my Dvd's turn out so well.
My problem now as can be seen in this forum is I need more resources to find out about perfecting Menus as i want my final dvd created to look good and I have not been able to get the beginning of my dvd to not look so amateurish with the Titles.
Once I am able to get Motion Menus and the Titles working to my liking I will indeed be a very happy user.
Right now I am frustrated about where to get reading material on how to perfect this area of the dvd.
I am certain that you will get help from this forum and if not try the tech support in New York, even though it is not a toll free call; I was not on the phone long and there was no great wait.
Just an alternate suggestion.
Best Regards. 631 - 434 - 3197 is the Hauppauge number, however if it is a Movie Factory issue then of course this tech support here will be of no assistance. (My problems I knew would be to get the Hauppauge set up properly as I could see when I did a print out of the instructions and that is why I called them before I did the MF4 patches)
Good luck and I am certain the well informed members here will genuinely assist in trying to get things up and running for you.
Being a Noob to all of this I rely on this great Forum a lot in order to accomplish my Dvd creations.

Glad to see you now have Movie Factory and your Hauppauge card working.
Not sure how many of these links may be of use but I find reading things that are connected to other similar software sometimes gives rise to ideas that can be used with the software you have available.

Thx Steve, those Links should provide for some good reading and printing out of pages. I keep a file on Hauppauge and capturing and creating and MF4 so that i can refer back to notes when i am working on a project.
I presently am working on Christmas presents, but the better half gets such a chuckle out of the beginning of my DVD with the date that I did it and the cat curled up in the basket that gets our snauzer barking as i am always fiddling with something on the tv and the dog seems bemused by me doing this and watches me and catches site of the cats that annoys him even though they are not moving.
The biggest impression that the better half got in my intro of my last dvd creation was those falling autumn leaves...from where they came I don't know; but really want to find out as it really polished the beginning of the dvd until the cats and the date of my capturing appeared on the screen and then the Chuckles
<<<<the better half began.
I did editing with my high 8 sony in years gone by and was able to get quality results. But I am befuddled as to where these nice autumn leaves appeared from as they are not in my VHS that I was capturing!!!!!!
I don't know if it is the Movie Factory 4 that comes up with this odd beginning and for certain I am distinctly doing something wrong; so I will have to try to polish up on that. I think I will purchase a couple of RW+ media as that is what my BenQ support recommend instead of wasting my practice on dvd's that are to be presents and the better half and the snauzer think my Introduction is comedy hour!!!!>>>>me
Until I get this fixed!
Should any other member read this and know anything about any options of choice under "motion menus" that include falling autumn leaves your comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thx once again and Best Regards.
