Ad-Zapper Help in VS10+

Post by ELazansky »

Has anyone figured out how to use the Ad-Zapper function in VS10+? I recorded a 30 minute TV show on my PVR. I created a new project and loaded the video to the Timeline. I chose Multi-trim Video, then clicked Ad-Zapper with High Sensitivity. The status bar went to 100% and finished, but nothing happened. I scolled through the video and the ads were all there, as the video length was still 30 minutes. Did I miss a step? Am I doing something wrong? I though this would be a neat way to record a movie and then strip the ads and make a quick DVD.

Did the Ad-Detection put multiple clips in the timeline below the preview window? If so, you have to go select the "Ads", and delete them from the timeline.

George,

That's what I was expecting, but it didn't happen. The whole 30 minute clip remained as one clip on the timeline. I figured with the sensitivity being High, it would pick up the 8 minutes of commericals for sure...

Sorry to say but so called ad-zappers are not something new, they are simply another name for scene change detection where major changes to the video such as going from light to dark etc are detected.

If Television companies ever placed some magic code in their TV broadcasts to say "Adverts begin" "Adverts End" then I doubt if they would raise much revenue from the advertising companies!

Your best bet is to remove them manually.

Well, that's boring :D

Oh well, more manual labor doing some editing...

Just tried Ad-Zapper and got 100% ad removal, slider was set at 75%, it did find all the seperatley. Had to remove about 18 clips that were detected. I did verify that all the items that were marked as C were actually commercials.

It worked better than I though it would.

I think it might be the show I'm using as my sample. When I look at the show in 15 second intervals, you don't really see that break right before and after coming out of commercial. I may try taping a different show and giving it a go one more time.
