Information Please for MovieMaker

Post by Harli »

Hello,
Apparently I posted this to the wrong board, so I will repost it here in case anyone has an answer for me. Thank you for your time.

Hello,
This is my first time here so forgive me if I don't know the protocol. I recently got a new computer with a DVD burner and simply want to burn movies from my hard drive to a DVD-R disc. I have been trying for 2 weeks and although college educated, this is way over my head. A friend suggested movie maker because it is user friendly (my favorite words).
I do not want to edit them, add anything to them or write anything more on the disc.
I decided to try the trial version first and it took me a couple days to find out I had to disenable most of my security and choose a secondary email address. I have been told to upload no less than 8 different programs from DVD identifiers to converters to players. I now have DivX bundle and movie maker. I've tried to read the tutorials but one questions leads to 5 more. All I want to do is burn movies for my family to watch on our stand alone dvd players.
I can launch movie maker, but as soon as I pick a category such as video disc and click next it goes back to the sign in page.
I have been determined to conquer this thing, but getting very very discouraged and feel pretty stupid. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Feel welcome to visit my webpage and meet my family...

Sorry Harli but you've posted in the wrong place again, this is the
Tutorials Section where we provide "How to's"

Towards the top of the forum you will find seperate sections for
VideoStudio
MovieFactory
MediaStudio Pro
Plus other Ulead products.

No need to post this again, just click the reply button and let me know which Ulead products you are using and I will move your post to the correct place.

If you're using VideoStudio you may wish to start by reading this post:

If you're using MovieFactory you may wish to read this post:

In fact I am currently working on a new tutorial which will detail in simple steps how to get your camcorder footage onto a DVD.

MovieMaker is the software that installs with XP.
Because you've asked this on a Ulead User forum I take it you meant
Ulead DVd Movie Factory
For the purposes of this reply there is little difference between version 4 and version 5.
Please view the following article

About half way down you will see that I have shown how to capture a video using WinTV2000. The file created by WinTV2000 will be somewhat similar to the file(s) you have downloaded and so you can continue from that point.

One last thing though. If you've downloaded these off the internet then they are almost certain to be in one of the following highly compressed video formats
DivX / Xvid / MPEG4
MovieFactory may not be able to de-compress those files into the required MPEG2 format and so you may wish to de-compress them first with a third party utility.
There are some free ones available and can be found in our link to free stuff:

Look for a program named "Super"
