I'm a newbie and I am foreseeing problems with the aspect ratio so to same myself aggravation I'm am asking for the help of the experienced.
Here is my problem: I recorded on the mini DV half in 4:3 and half in 16:9.
How do I capture, edit, and burn this project to play back on a 4:3 TV without distortion?
I tried to capture normally and the 4:3 footage looks fine but the widescreen footage looks distorted.
Please Help!

Because your original source material is 2 different aspect ratios then I would keep both of the videos as separate videos on the dvd which also means 2 separate mpeg2 files.
When you import the 16:9 video that's distorted it's because it's not marked as 16:9 on the source dvd.
You can export it out as 16:9 setting the encoding parameters to 16:9 and
match the video & audio same as the source video properties.
When you export it leave "Smart-Render" checked ON.
Turn off / UNCheck "Perform non-square pixel rendering:".
Then load that exported file back into VS because it will now be 16:9 aspect ratio.
If you search the VS forum you can find more information on this.
