Can 10+ Export .m2t Format?
Can someone with 10+ please check to see if it can create and Export a video file in mpeg2 Transport format (.m2t) to the Sony HC1 or HC3?
(I'm still waiting for a Boxed version of 10+. )

John:
Sorry to report that VS10+ doesn't have the ability to create a m2t file.
I am also hard pressed to find a template to create a high definition mpg file. There are templates for WMV HD video but that creating those files are way too slow. I was able to connect my HC1 and capture some video, the help file seems to suggest you need the HD plug-in, not so its already there.
The DV recording selection in the share section looks for a standard DV camera and doesn't detect the HC1.

Well, that is a surprise! It would be extremely lame of Ulead to fail to ship native support for high definition video in 10+.
I could care less about actually using m2t to send to the HC1 to playback HD but the overall lack of support for high definition is a real problem. If that were the case, I would not bother to upgrade at all.
Could you please see if you can install the HD plugin? With VS9, the HD templates installed with that plug...

VS10 does have three HD templates, 1440x1080 HD MPEG2, WMV 1280x720 HD and WMV 1440x1080 HD.
The thing I don't like is if you want to output a HD file with other than the setting in the templates you have to have a HD file on the time line and create a custom output (e.g. change frame size or bitrate). If you have a SD file on the time line you can't do a custom output.
The HD plug-in is installed when you install the program.
I haven't had a lot of time to play with VS10, but it seems harder to change things. It will take a little more playing around with.
I find Movie Factory 5 to be better at capturing and simple cuts with HD video and it doesn't use proxy files and is very fast.

OK, the Mpeg2 1440x1080 @25Mbps template will work fine for capturing HD and should be easily customizable to uprez to 1920x1080 to output video files.
Have you downloaded the HD Divx codec? After it is installed, you should be able to select it in Create Video File/Compression Tab/ Compression (I have done this in VS9.0) and produce very compact video files with no compression artifacts at 8Mbps.
BTW, in VS9, I have uprezed 720x480 video in the timeline to 1080 line video OK (It doesn't get any sharper) but jpeg stills in the project DO display a lot more of their native resolution. If you can't do that in 10+, it would be a real downgrade...

Due to my recent Hard Drive problems I haven't had much chance to look at VS10+ yet but one thing I did notice in the preferences screen was a check box to enable/disable the use of proxy files.tyamada wrote:I find Movie Factory 5 to be better at capturing and simple cuts with HD video and it doesn't use proxy files and is very fast.

Hi,
If you custom export the HD material using "Options" and under one of the tabs select "Video" instead of "Video & Audio" doesn't that produce the same results.
Only the Video will be created, you can rename the extension.
The audio stream can also be created by saving only the audio and also changing it's extension.
Just Curious,
MD

John:
It doesn't matter what your project settings are if you are working with HD video on the time line you can use the custom option to change the parameters, they show up as what they are.

Steve:
I disabled my proxy file setting in MSP8 and VS10 due to the fact it takes longer to build the proxy file than it takes to render the HD project.
I think Movie Factory 5 is better at hanlding HD video for everything except the complicated editing.

The only way to up rez SD video is to render it with the HD template and then put it back on the time line and change the rez to what you want.BTW, in VS9, I have uprezed 720x480 video in the timeline to 1080 line video OK (It doesn't get any sharper) but jpeg stills in the project DO display a lot more of their native resolution. No dice, as I said previously the DV Recording Icon when selected with a HC1 connected and powered up will tell you that cannot find DV device.
It's looking for a standard DV camcorder.
If you want to write back to tape you should try this:
http://kgbird.com/DVHSTool/
I use DVHSTools to record mpg streams to my DVHS Recorder, I haven't tried with the HC1, have been too bussy doing other things. You can also capture with the tools.

Thanks Guys,
I was asking for someone else who really wants to write back an edited video to his HC1's tape. I will report back that 10+ does not support exporting back to the HC1.
I seem to remember trying DVHS last fall before I bought my HC1 and had a lot of difficulty even converting to Mpeg2 transport format...
