Text Background in MSP 7.3

Post by Maukka »

How can one get a dark backround for subtitle text in MSP 7.3 ?

In the Title Editor I choose "Opaque background" - and then the whole frame turns black, not just the area immediately behind the text. Is there a way to adjust this?

NB. I don't want a color bar which runs accross the screen, but just a slightly transparent black backgorund for the text so that it is readable when it is against a clear background.

Also, although I will later add subtitles in WS2, I want to make these particular ones in MSP, because they need to be always there whether one has activated subtitles or not.

Thanks!

How about using a black on transparent tga image where you want it and apply your text to that?

Next to the Opaque background, you should see a small box. If you're default color is black, then that's what you'll get. Click on this box and a grid of colors will pop up. You can then choose your desired background.

 Suggestion: white or light colored text prove easy on the eys when using black backgrounds. Hope this helps.

Thanks ese,

I appreciate your advice.
Maybe my original queston was misleading, but in fact the problem was not the background color as such. It was the fact that the backgound - whatever its color - fills the entire screen, not just the area immediately behind the subtitle text. And apparently the only way around this is to custom make the backgound in Photoshop or equivalent software for each screen where you have subtitles... could it get any more complicated?

To be honest, I find it surprising that Ulead did not fix this in the three service packs they released for MSP7. I have to deal with it now because my project was started in MSP7, so I cannot jump to version 8 in the middle of the project.
