VS10+ loses VS9 PVR 250 Previews & VS9 Audio Distortion

Post by M@onVideo »

Hi,

Since installing VS10+, my Hauppauge PVR 250 USB2 Encoder device has caused blank preview/capture screens in both this new version and VS9.

Additionally, playing VS9 projects in VS10+ causes crackles and distortion on timeline playback with .mp3 imported files and suppied VS9 audio clips. This does not happen with VS9. This is suprising as VS10+ appears to perform much quicker.

After taking the advise of Ulead UK Support and re-installing VS10+, I have lost my media clip library in VS9 and I cannot get my Hauppauge PVR 250 USB2 Encoder device back in Tools->Change Capture Plugin.

I am at a loss what to do. Has anyone experienced this issue?

Regards,
Matt (UK).

I have a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 MCE and an issue maybe you can help me with.

Are you able to use VS to capture in MPEG-2 or DVD? When I try to capture using either of those formats I get the following error:

MPEG capture does not accept HCW2 codec.
Please select a suitable codec from the video format list.
It is recommended to use codec (1) YUV codec first, then (2) RGB-24 codec.

I started a different thread here but haven't figured out the solution yet.

I have a Hauppauge capture card, and the WinTV capture software that came with it works great.* There are Hauppuge updates for some Ulead programs, but I think it's best to use the special capture-software that's made for your particular capture-hardware.

The Ulead programs seem to have particular trouble with capture devices that have their own built-in hardware MPEG encoder (like Hauppauge.)

I have also noticed audio distortion when converting from the MPEG-2 audio (created by Hauppauge) to AC3 audio for the DVD. I solved that by reducing the audio level (in Ulead) to 75%.

* I don't recommend the Hauppauge cards, because they are MPEG only, and MPEGs are not meant to be edited.... You can get all kinds of problems, including the one that inspired my "signature". :(

I don't seem to have that software. My computer came with the card installed, and the software is Sonic and so far it has been disappointing.

In my first post above I said I have the PVR150.
I did download the WinTV program (which promptly didn't work and I had to download additional dll files, what a pain in the a$$).

Ulead Support

Post by M@onVideo »

Why after a flaming week or so, Ulead are asking me today if I installed the Hauppauge PVR USB2 plugin for VS9? Can't they understand a simple query? !!!

I am now capturing via Hauppauge WinTV (not sure if this is a good quality capture) and including on timeline.

I am now worried about even starting VS10+, so I've gone back to using VS9 and luckily all the projects have been unaffected.

I did notice VS9's "fit & burn" on a 2 hour DV Band Concert (my band) did not take into account the menu and audio background on the menu. So although it got the size down to 4.6Gb, it wasn't enough to fit on a DVD-R.

I then had to use DVD Shrink which got the size down to 4.2Gb and it all seems ok.

I've emailed Hauppauge (USA) for help, and they are sending me the latest beta driver to test. I still don't think it's Hauppauge's problem as Roxio 7.5 Supersonic previews and captures ok. So what is going on with Ulead VS ? Beats me.
