I purchased a Pioneer DVD Burner (model #DVR A08XL). It came with ULEAD DVD Movie Factory 3.5SE. I used this software to create a Video/Slideshow disc. I then added several digital movie clips to the project, taken with my Sony DVD Handycam (Model#201). The files were added easily, but I received a message stating that the program didn't support Dolby Digital. Since I wanted the sound of the movie clips, I downloaded a ULEAD upgrade, DVD Movie Factory 3 Disc Creator. I then tried to open my existing project with this new program. Initially it opened fine. I was able to view and edit my clips with sound. When I went to burn the DVD, I got all the way to the end, and began the "Output". The Output started and I left the PC to complete the burn. I checked back in 30 minutes and the burn was at that time 38% complete. When I checked back in another 30 minutes the ULEAD program was shut down, and there was nothing to indicate what happened. I checked the DVD that was supposed to be burned, and I there's nothing on it. Since then I’ve tried to reopen the existing project several times with DVD Movie Factory 3 Disc Creator, and it shuts down every time during startup. The program will not open my existing project. So I tried to launch it to start a new project, and it lets me no problem. I then tried to open my existing project without the movie clips, just the slideshows, and it opened but later closed before reaching the output screen. I am still able to open the full project in my original ULEAD DVD Movie Factory 3.5SE, but without sound.
I uninstalled and reinstalled both programs, ULEAD DVD Movie Factory 3.5SE and ULEAD DVD Movie Factory 3 Disc Creator. This did not correct my problem.
All I really wanted to do, was add movie clips WITH sound to my existing project. PLEASE HELP, I am making Christmas DVD’s for my family.
Error????ULEAD has encountered and error and needs to close.

Use Windows Explorer to browse the My Documents folder and search for Ulead DVD MovieFactory and then check the "3.0" folder, then delete the DMF_TEMP folder and then try again.
Also remember to install the latest updates and patches for DVD MovieFactory.
Hope this helps.

When I downloaded the original MF3 Disc Creator the program had the
same bugs as is happening to you.
After the DL patch the program worked better. The original release had
many flaws with "Slideshows".
The latest patches fixed many problems. Can't get to the Ulead web site
right now(down) but if you click on the MF3 advertisement then on the
right hand side of the web page is "Support and patches" or something
like that (the links are on the right side of the page).
I think the 16x is only a burning engine patch. You need the DL (dual layer) patch. Allows for DL estimation in the program along with 16:9
aspect ratio and other fixes.
Even after the latest patches I still can't go from "Dolby" source files
to "Dolby" output files.
I can if the files aren't re-rendered meaning that I didn't combine/edit
them. If I try to combine the files which forces a re-render the program
seems to hang. At least on mine.
There is also something else that occurs with creating slideshows.
The "Archive" slideshows to disk is set to "ON" by default.
If your creating a VCD slideshow the estimation meter on the burning
screen is very large because MF3 is saving the pictures onto the VCD.
You can disable this in one of the sub-screens in the output screen.
Hope this helps,

Re: Error????ULEAD has encountered and error and needs to cl
I had similar problems, but I have found that if I have the option to NOT convert compliant MPEGs checked, the program bombs during the rendering stage -- but with it unchecked it will render to the end with no crashing.mannhole1 wrote:The Output started and I left the PC to complete the burn. You may want to try this to see if it helps you as well.

I think I have similar problems as well Gator. I'm a new user to MF 3.5 but was impressed with how easy everything was. Then I left my computer to render and came back to explorer's polite "Movie Factory has encountered a problem and needed to close"
Here's what the error heading was:
AppName: dvdmf.exe AppVer: 3.5.0.1 ModName: mpgvout.004
ModVer: 1.2.9.15 Offset: 00025da9
I'll try unchecking the "Do not convert MPEG..." box, but I think it's silly to have to do that to render an MPEG project.
