Unable to creat dvd in VS9

Post by AlexM »

I open " share" for my project. A screen comes up. I make no changes there and hit "next". The title screen comes up and I hit "Next". The "creative intelligence screen comes up and I hit "Next". At that point the next screen comes up with and hourglass and I am frozen in that screen . I cannot get out in any way and have to turn off the power to the computre. Tech support sent the ideas below I did all of them. No luck. They have not answered my replies to there email. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks

First, while creating a video please do the following:
A. Enable DM:
1) Control Panel: System: Hardware tab: Device Manager.
2) Click "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
3) Double click on Primary IDE Channel: Advanced settings.
4) Be sure Current transfer mode is DMA. (Transfer mode should be DMA if available in default.)

B. Close all other applications or programs running including internet.

C. Remove or unplug all unnecessary devices connected to your PC like webcam.

D. Then, download the latest CD/DVD burning engine from the following link:
http://www.ulead.com/tech/general/burning_patch.htm

and extract all the files to this folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\DVD

You might also check these:
1. Compatibility of your burning devices:
http://www.ulead.com/tech/general/compatibility.htm
2. Use other brand of blank disc to burn. Also, make sure that you do not use the blank disc with burning speed that is higher than the one your burner can support.
3. Try lowering the burner's speed to burn.

Make a fresh restart of your PC before creating a video.

For many people, it seems that their burning problems are associated with the work flow they adopt, and for these people, it appears that they may not be following optimum practice. The main problem seems to be that they have their project in the timeline, do their edits, and then attempt to burn their project directly to disc. That is what it sounds as though you are trying to do.

The recommended procedure is set out in the first sticky post on this Board. But briefly, with each project, you should first be going from the edited projected to Share > Create Video File > DVD, and producing a DVD-compatible mpeg-2 file. You will need to work out the compression rate you use from the amount of video you want to fit on disc. (Roughly, a compression rate of 8000 kbps will give you around an hour on a single layer DVD; 6000 kbps -- 1.5 hours; 4000 kbps -- 2 hours). Then when you have all of the final mpeg-2s you want, you close your last project, and open Share > Create Disc > DVD. Instead of inserting projects (i.e. your .VSP file) in the burning module, you then insert the DVD-compliant mpeg-2s you have produced, build your menus etc (or skip them as you seem to be doing) and then burn. Make sure you click 'do not convert compliant mpeg files' in the cogwheel icon to the bottom left of the burning screen.

You are, of course, free to follow any work flow you want, and for some, the truncated method of burning direct from a project works. But the broad experience on this Board supports the work flow I have described above.

Do you have an packet writing software such as Nero InCD or Roxio DirectCD installed? They can -- or more accurately will -- interfere with Videostudio.

Alex,

Like Ken says, if your situation and set-up allow you to follow the Recommended Procedure, you should not have these problems.

Any time I've had a problem like that it's been a bad video file (MPEGs, in my case). Lots of people have trouble with downloaded DivX files. Sometimes a corrupt file will play-back OK, but cause weird problems. I call it "sneaky" corruption.

Please tell us something about your files... the type of video file and where it came from. The Read This First... post tells you what we need to know to help you.

Hey Alex,
Several of us have gone through the same thing.
I unloaded all of my drag & drop software, looked for other hidden problems mentioned here and got no where.

Just for the heck of it try this. It worked for me.

Download the VS 10+ trial package. Load the same video file that wouldn't work in VS 9 and see if you can burn it now.
This is what I did and it burned without a problem.
I am waiting for ver 10 + the disk & book combo to become available. I wouldn't try downloading ver 10+ or any other newer version in the future. This has always been a problem since ver 8.

Please let me know if it works. I am curious. HTH, :)

Thanks to all who resonded. I lost my way and forgot how to get back here so never replied. I solved the problem by following the instructions in the "Recommended Priocedure" page. It was a work flow problem.
