Video Studio 9 SE

Post by TDK1044 »

I'm purchasing a capture device which comes bundled with Video Studio 9 SE. Does anyone know the key differences between the full version of VS 9 and VS 9 SE? Does SE have a full set of video filters, and does it have the ability to 'Duplicate The Audio Channel'? I currently use VS 8, and I'm debating getting VS 10, but if VS 9 SE gives me more than VS 8, it may not be worth getting VS 10 at this time.

I think it's fair to say that nobody on these forums actually knows the full extent of what is and what is not included in an 'SE' version - these are Special Editions' produced by Ulead for distribution free with various software or hardware packages - and every one can be different depending on what it accompanies.

About the only thing we can say for sure is if it does not say DVD on the end - ie 9 SE DVD - then it will not burn a DVD .

An upgrade - which you can get at the reduced price - is always worthwile as soon as you decide you like the basic tryout programme.

Thanks, Brian. I appreciate the input. Thankfully, it does say DVD after it.

I don't know either about SE version, nor about duplicating audio channels,
but I'm pretty sure the filters is the same lot.

And that, because the trial versions contain the full kit of transitions and filters, and since it would be trivial to copy them to another version, I can't see why they would remove them.

One common factor missing from SE versions appears to be the ability to handle Dolby Digital. This feature requires a Dolby license so is usually not in the SE (Free) versions.

In a nutshell any "SE" version can be considered as never ending trial software. They do the job but have limited functions.

Your best bet is to install your SE version and then Download a Trial Version of the full product - make sure you install to a different directory to your SE version, and you will soon see whats missing from the SE version.
