Hmmmm....that doesn't sound very promising.sjj1805 wrote:Ulead capture programs normally supports capturing only with the devices that are compliant with VFW(Video for Windows) and Directshow capture driver, and the drivers that are listed in the program's capture plugin (Tools menu>Change capture plugin). The other plugins refers for the specific devices that are having by the most of users based on the inquiries that are sent in our support system and forums.
Also, Ulead may come up to show the patches for some capture devices where our softwares are bundled in the specific device which are using the special capture driver or hardware compression driver which is not normally supported by purchased versions of our softwares. So users could safely remove the bundled program if they decided to upgrade their program into purchased version (in the same version number) due to some limitations in the bundled Ulead program. This is like what happened to some Hauppauge devices where UVS 9 is bundled.

Thanks very much for that, Steve. The Ulead explanation re your second question, while somewhat impenetrable, jogged my memory. And indeed, when I set my capture device to my Winfast DV2000 TV capture card, instead of one of my two cameras (as I had before), I get a variety of other options in the Options cogwheel icon on the Capture page. These include a 'Video Compression' choice, which in turn allows me to select the specific codec I want to use. I knew I had seen this before with VS9, but had forgotten that it was linked to my capture card or my webcam... Glad that was resolved at least as far as I was concerned.
But sounds as though it might not be good news for Jobu...

Is that a euphemism for mumbo jumbo?Ken Berry wrote:The Ulead explanation re your second question, while somewhat impenetrable
So what do you think the prospects of a fix are? It seems such a simple thing, to be able change the codec.Ken Berry wrote:These include a 'Video Compression' choice, which in turn allows me to select the specific codec I want to use. Sorry, Jobu, but the point I was making -- probably as impenetrably as the Ulead response -- was that in fact I can now change the codecs for captures with my TV capture card (and webcam). As I interpreted the Ulead response, essentially for 'standard' capture from 'standard' devices, you use the 'standard' Ulead codecs for such captures (Direct Show for DV/AVI, Ulead DSW Mpeg capture codec for mpeg-2, and the others listed in the Tools > Change Capture Plug-in Drop-down menu. And you don't really get a choice here.
But if you are using a non-standard (from Ulead's point view) device which installs its own codecs and/or software, then Ulead allows you to make a choice of codec. This happens on the capture page through the Options cogwheel icon, as it has in the case of my Winfast DV2000 capture card. When I select the card in the VS10 Capture page, I can now access the full range of codecs installed on my computer by other programs, even if in fact only a small number of them would work with the card in any case... But at least for that card I can make the choice now.
I am sorry, but I don't know your card, though I'm sad it does not seem to give you the choice I have now (re)found. Mind you, I would have thought that if, on installing the card, you had installed software which in turn had loaded its own set of codecs, then you would, like me, be given the choice when selecting the card as the capture device in Video Studio...

The Hauppauge does show up in Version 10 in the list of capture devices.
It just doesn't work. On behalf of the forum I have made Ulead aware of this and now it's a case of sitting back and waiting to see if they provide a fix.
The Hauppauge didn't originally work with VS9 when it was first released and so they provided some hot fixes:
http://www.ulead.com/tech/vs/vs_ftp.htm
Ulead VideoStudio 9 Hauppauge hardware devices support pack (Release Date: 2005/06/13 )
Ulead VideoStudio 9 SE Hauppauge hardware devices support pack (Release Date: 2005/06/13)
I tried all I could do to make these fixes work with VS10, I copied dll files, checked all the ini files etc.

No, I fully understood your response, I just appreciated the way you described their response as "impenetrable" - it was humorous.Ken Berry wrote:Sorry, Jobu, but the point I was making -- probably as impenetrably as the Ulead response
Actually, my card came installed on my machine (Media Center PC).Ken Berry wrote:on installing the card, you had installed software which in turn had loaded its own set of codecs, then you would, like me, be given the choice when selecting the card as the capture device in Video Studio
Which leads me to a question for Steve:
Do you know how I can find out exactly which model (e.g., 150, 250, etc.) Hauppage card I have? The hardware profile says Hauppage WinTV PVR PCI II but it doesn't say specifically which model.

After installing those with VS9 I was able to get the capture to work using the DVD format as input type with a Hauppauge Win-TV 150. Works great, thanks a million Steve, have been going through headaches for the last two weeks trying to get a program to work other than WinTV2000.The Hauppauge didn't originally work with VS9 when it was first released and so they provided some hot fixes:
