DVD MovieFactory 3 Disc Creator Edition doesn`t encode AC-3
Well i`ve patched it with `Update Pack (Build ID: 300P01, Release Date: 2004/06/03)` which "Fixes conversion error problems with AC-3 files"....
er no it doesn`t. I have a file which has this audio stream ` Audio : 116 MB, 256 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x2000 = AC3 DVM` The avi plays inside MF3DCE fine but cannot encode it to DVD, all that happens is the video is converted (the program doesn`t even give a error that it not converting the audio stream). If i press the `I` for Media clip Information i get `Unknown ACM format` and i have Ulead AC-3 powerpack 1.0 installed. Funny thing is if i trial a basic shareware program with AC-3 support it converts it and i`ve tried VSO`s DIVX2DVD and Canopus`s Procoder2 and they convert this files AC-3 fine.
So what do i have to do to get this program to do it?
Oh yeah lift the file size limit on the output size, just put a warning that output file won`t fit on 8.5Gb disc
Cheers

It sounds like the audio is in an avi file?
What kind of avi file is this?
What codec?
If you export the audio using an external program to a file in
wav format (16bit 48kz stereo lpcm) you can import the audio
in MF3
Use "Enhance Video" -> Audio Tab
"Add Audio" -> (New audio file in wav format)
Change Original audio from 100 to 0.
Change Additional audio to 100.
Hope this helps,

Yeah the audio is in the AVI file which is XVID MPEG 4
I was with you all the way up to `Use external program`
This says instantly Ulead can`t "figure it out", has tried a patch,
which was entertaining...that they tried.
If you noticed i gave a direct statment in the subject post
and not even Ulead themselves have defended it, thats if they
bother to monitor the forum.
I`m going to use VSO DIVX2DVD as this working fine.
Maybe this program is a public beta test just going by reading this forum.
All i want is AC-3 in a MPEG4 file transfered to AC-3 in VOBs .....

I would try exporting the file from Procoder2 as a Mpg2 dvd compliant file then import the file into MF3.
If you plan to edit the video material:
Maybe be best to have procoder2 create the file with pcm audio
or dvd mpg audio. Then you can have MF3 convert mpg to AC-3.

If i used Procoder 2 it would do the whole job for me as i just
want a striaght conversion also would be the choice if messing
with the bit rates now.
But i was surprised at VSO`s (5 clicks max) program which has a
good output file just for basic striaght MPEG4 to DVD conversion
and automatic audio sync, i think i`m using a old version aswell...
...and this is what has surprised me with MF3, cannot do basic
conversion of AC-3 in a MPEG4 to DVD vob output files, maybe
they are looking into it?

I assume that ULead will eventually support MPEG4 but at this time they don't... here are the supported formats from the page on DMF30DC:efex172 wrote: ...and this is what has surprised me with MF3, cannot do basic

"Video: DVD-Video, DVD+VR, DVD-VR(for DVD-RAM & -RW), MPEG-1, MPEG-2, DV AVI, AVI, DAT, VOB, WMV, QuickTime™, MICROMV"
I'm surprised that you had to buy the AC-3 Power Pack because when I bought DMF30DC it came with support for Dolby Digital.
BTW the name of this thread is very misleading... DMF30DC will produce 2 channel Dolby Digital audio from your source files assuming that it can comprehend the codecs used in creating the files.

P.S. I see that ULead has a MPEG4 plug-in for Video Studio 8

There supported formats are misleading as DIVX and XVID files
end in AVI.....
But hey anything to market the program.
What i ment about Ulead AC-3 powerpack 1.0, is that it gets installed
then the program doesn`t recognise a AC-3 audio stream.....
Plus i said that it encodes the XVID file which is MPEG 4 great
it just doesn`t encode the AC-3 file in it...to AC-3 on the VOB output.
I`ll hold my hands up and say i`m to blame if someone can says they have no trouble doing what i want but it all seems strange at the moment.

The AC-3 that MF3 is supposed to import is AC-3 2/0 (2 channel audio).
MF3 has recognized all the AC-3 files I've imported into it that were
created on a dvd desktop recorder(s).
I have experienced problems editing a source file with dolby 2/0 audio.
Personnally I stay away from editing any very compressed video/audio file.
Many users have reported the same problems that you are experiencing
so that in itself shows MF3 has a problem with these highly compressed
video files.
I purchased MF3 Disc Creator to import videos from desktop units. Then
create chapters, a menu system then create a dvd (folder or iso file).
No editing is performed on these files because they are trimmed on the
desktop recorders which is much faster than trimming using
a computer.
For that the program has worked well for me.
Also creates very nice slideshows.
The program did have bugs though ever since it was released.

Some version of XviD CODEC might not be compatible with Ulead, please convert it to another video format so Ulead can use it or try another XviD CODEC to see if it helps.efex172 wrote:There supported formats are misleading as DIVX and XVID files
Ulead products are compatible with DivX video.
Hope this helps.

Thats a Shame Ulead as your program converts the XVID video 100%
spot-on as it`s just modified MPEG4, Infact in the Information Properities
it tells me it`s a XVID file... The program also plays the XVID file "in MF3"
thats the video and the audio with no problem...this, remember, is doing
this while being unsupported....Hmmm
This still doesn`t give the answer of why the program doesn`t recognize
the audio file as a 2 channel 256 Kbps 48000Hz 0x2000 AC-3. Doesn`t
Ulead support this type of audio file.... because the program says it`s
**Unknown ACM Format**
So (rubbing salt) It recognizes whats unsupported but doesn`t recognize
what is supported.
I`m just glad DIVXtoDVD does, in a 2.3Mb program. (That is, basic
straight conversion of files)
But i`ll leave it here, Ulead doesn`t support XVID in this program.
I hope Audio/Video software Web Sites and Forums can now post the
answer if the same problem is asked.

I'm not stating that's the problem I just thought I'd mention it. I've seen simialr posts to yours... Could be a bug in the app too. Just a suggestion.efex172 wrote:Sorry i didn`t make the file but i got the info about the file by using
AVIcodec program. but as part of the header info is 0x2000 doesn`t that alone say it`s AC-3
