Is it worth the upgrade to VS10?

Post by daddog »

I have been using/learning how to use VS9 for about a year. Great product and am still learning the ropes.

Questions

1 - Can I upgrade from VS9 to VS10 seamlessly?
2 - Is there an upgrade from VS9 to VS10 that woudl be cheaper than purchasing the full product?
3 - Is it worth the upgrade?

Thanks in advance. :)

Hi Daddog,

1. Yes
2. VS10 Plus would be cheaper in your case. There is no upgrade to VS10. You would have to purchase the full product.
3. VS10 Plus--Yes/ VS10 --No

Those are my opinions, and should not in anyway influence a decision to purchase or not. The only person that can determine if a product is worth it is you...:)

Download the TBYB version of VS10+ and see what you think...

Compare here. The main new features are high-def and Dolby 5.1 surround.

I'm not ready for HD, but I do want to play around with with the surround sound. I'm going to order the boxed version when it's available.

Just to add to what Doug said. I think the major improvement is the extra video tracks giving a far greater scope for creativity.

Thank you gentlemen. :)

What if I download VS10 and have VS9 on my system. Will it let me choose between the two which I use?

Hi Daddog,
I recently downloaded the trial of VS10 Plus and had a play with it. I am satisfied I will be upgrading when the boxed version comes out.
I have VS9 installed and purring like a kitten. The install of 10 did not disturb 9 in any way and the two co-existed peacefully on my computer for the few days of my trial.
Also the uninstall of 10 did not disrupt 9 either.

Yes on my system both VS9 and VS10 are installed, but they can´t be opened both at same time. VS10 reads VS9 projects real fine.

I thought the support for saving and defining DVD menu´s on the timeline was the best news, but I am very disapointed that it doesn´t support ripple editing, hence If you have last minute changes to the timeline you have to redefine every single menu pointer.

I have tryed to use Pinnacle VS10 because of this, but it is still way to unstable even after sp10.5.2.

You dont ripple edit DVD menus you ripple edit videos on the editor timeline. Both versions of VideoStudio (9/10) support ripple editing.

When inserting a videoclip or a effect in a project in between or before other clips, following clip are moved to make space for the new clip.
When ripple editing is active soundclip and titleclip are moved syncronsly.
When ripple editing is not active you have to move every sound and title clip manually. Ripple editing is enabled on the left side of the time line.

In VS9 DVD menues could be saved, but at any change to the time line you have to redefine the menus from scratch.
In VS10 pointere has been added to maintain the DVD menus after editing the time line. But by editing the time line every single pointer still have to be moved manually.
