When I convert a video to MPG2 and open it in MSP8, the properties of the clip (right click) is given as DVD codec - not MPG2. Is that right?
An MPG 1 clip is given correctly.
Right click properties on clips?

Your PC does not (usually) come with a preinstalled MPEG-2 decoder because of licensing issues.
When you install a DVD playback program such as PowerDVD, you are installing a codec that will also play back MPEG-2 files. The codec is probably just reporting back its own name when interrogated by the properties dialog.
I just output one of the MPEG-2 files that comes standard with MSP8 as a DVD-compliant MPEG-2 file. Both the original and the output DVD file, when on the timeline, show "MPEG-2" in the properties.
I don't think it's something you need to worry about.
What choices do you have under "Encode driver" (in general MPEG options)?
