VS 8 - capture - cannot preview

DV: SONY IP7E
PC: IBM ThinkPad X31 with 1394 built-in

VideoStudio 8

when i go to capture, there is nothing there, the functions on the screen operate the camera ok but no pic capture but displays this error

Unable to Switch to Capture mode
Cannot Preview
[15200:33:6]
[15023:4:2]

I don't have the problem with VS 7 and Media Studio 7.

Check to make sure that the Preview target is the Preview window, and not a dualhead or DV device.

did the change, still got the same err msg.

Under Tools - Change Capture Plugin, make sure that you have the Ulead DirectShow capture plugin selected.

if I choose 'Ulead DirectShow' all buttons are gray-out. Coz my DV is MicroMV, I need to choose 'MicroMV MPEG capture plug-in'. Still got problem.

The weird thing is: no problem with MediaSutdio7 or VideoStudio7.

I found a 'solution' - Install VS7 then install VS8 on top of it. Then uninstall VS7. a little stupid, but works

I have a simlar problem - my video capture card is a Grandmars MPB680.
VS8 dispays the same massage (unable to swith to capture mode) when I try to capture.

I have the same kind of problem. I just posted my question :

I have UVS 8. After a few problems in the beginning, the program finally worked. I did not use it for a few months. Now I cannot capture anymore. UVS recognizes my camera (Sony TRV900E). I changed the capture module and choosed others, like Ulead Direct Show (sorry I do not know the exact terms in english : my program is in french). Moreover, I cannot use anymore the project VSP I had already saved. I can open it, I hear the soundtrack but receive no image. On the contrary, when I view the clips included in UVS (those under Video, on the right side of the screen), it works.

I receive such messages (I translate from french) :

Impossible to switch to capture mode. Check if your video capture pilot works properly. Impossible to previsualize.
(15200 : 33 : 6)
(15023 : 4 : 2)

Launching of video capture module failed. Another program uses it or the file has been removed.
Opening of the pilot failed.

I have no solution after weeks of searching... Can anybody help me ?
I have screen prints of the messages but cannot post them of this forum.
