Importing DVD or VR files from Sony HandyCam

Post by davef44 »

I have recently aquired a Sony HanyCam Model DCR DVD305 operating in 16:9 format. When I import the video files, they show up correctly in the preview (16:9) with no image distortion. When I finalize the import, the clips are imported as 4:3 and the images are displayed on a 16:9 frame with a black pillar on the left and right, and the picture is now distorted (images taller and narrow than they should be). The DVD from the Sony camera plays correctly on my Dell Inspiron 600m laptop video playback software (XP operating system).
Any experience with this. I have set everything I can find in DVD Factory Ver. 5.0 to 16:9, but the import from the HandyCam's Mini DVD, still brings in a clip in 4:3 format.

Any tips?

Hi,
That's been discussed before and it's the way Sony writes those mini-dvd's.
Some people use IFO-Edit (a program) to correct the aspect ratio on the dvd.

You can use the export features to export the dvd to 16:9 format using smart-render. It's a hassle though because your creating another file.
Then import that new file.
