Panasonic NVGS range with Videostudio ?

Post by nick200 »

Anyone used one of these series 3ccd camcorders with Video studio ?

The reason i ask, is on more than one occasion a review has mentioned 'can be tricky to edit' but no details were mentioned.

I would have expected a standard mini-dv type output via firewire, but i'm just wondering if there is some format difference ? Anyone know ?

Nick,

I have a Panasonic DVC30 & works well with VS8 & VS9.
On any digital camcorder you should use a firewire for transfer.

Don't know if this answered your question properly..........
iMac AIO (late 2012)
Windows 7 (bootcamp)
VS Pro X3
8gb RAM
1 - 1TB HD
1 - 120 SSD
1 - 2TB External HD
Panasonic DVC-30

I have a PV-GS400, and have absolutely no problem with video from it.

Is the 'can be tricky to edit' quote in reference to Videostudio or the camcorder? Videostudio is one of the few NLEs that gladly accepts both DV Type 1 and DV Type 2, whereas many other programs choke on one or the other.

I have the NV-GS400 and have had no problems capturing or editing with VS9. I have also used the cam for pass thru with my Sharp 8mm and no probs with that either.

Excellent ! thanks thats what i wanted to hear.

I currently use VS with a JVC mini-dv camcorder and was looking at upgrading to one of the 3chip models such as the 300/400 but wanted to be sure i could carry on with VS. Out of interest, are you guys pleased with your 400 - would you buy it again ?

The mentions i heard previously were no reflection on any one editing package they were just general comments about the camcorder itself, so dont know where they came from, but if you guys have used the 400 then its no problem and i now have no excuse not to buy one !

Hi Nick

Just another vote for the NV-GS400.

Have been using this camera for about a year with no problems.
Now shooting in wide screen with excellent results.

One reason for the choice was to have a camera that had pass thru, to enable vhs capture to Dv-Avi. The results being much better than via my capture card.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy the GS400 again, but they are nearly impossible to find now -- the model has been discontinued by Panasonic and replaced by a less feature-rich model, the GS500. The GS500 sells for half to one-third of what a new GS400 costs.
