Can't Capture video - problem with device driver

Post by timposey »

Every time I click to capture video and then turn on my DV camera, I get the following message.

"The /systemroot/system32/drivers/mskssrv.sys device driver could not locate the entry point Kscache medium in driver ks.sys"

I have tried copying the file mskssrv.sys from another computer but did not change anything. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the driver for my firewire card. uninstalled version 5 version 9 and installed the new 10+ but nothing helped this problem.

I am using win 2000 pro. everything else works great just the problem with capture, and I have been able to capture in the past. I don't know what changed.

All help would be appreciated.

Tim,

Have you tried re-installing your firewire card, and not just the drivers? If you are comfortable in doing so, you might try uninstalling the card, removing it, then re-installing it. This might slap the OS back to reality.

I haven't had to do that with WinXP, but on my old Win98 machine, I've had to do that a couple of times, where the OS just plain forgot that it had a certain PC card....

No Preview when I connect my Camcorder

Post by Ewan »

Hi folks,

I could really do with some pointers, I am using a Samsung DV 531 camcorder with a fully purchased retail version of VideoStudio 9 (which I like a lot!) however.. I installed my Firewire card, and connected the DV cable, my camera was found with Windows XP, but when I try to capture device, I get a window that tells me that there is nothing connected, and to check connections..I have done this now some 8 + times with no avail.. I can however.. capture any video through NeoDvD 5, which is a little bit of a pain, as I have to capture and then save, then import into VS 9 and very time consuming.. I should also point out that the very same problem occured with VS 5

the same error message also comes up in Windows Movie maker, device is showing, but software says not connected..

I would really appreciate any advice help pointers etc, Im at my wits end

Thanks in advance

Update - I've managed to solve the problem I was having..

it wasn't VS or my camcorder that was causing the problem it was Windows SP2 ! in the system32 files

after days & hours of trawling the internet, finally its all sorted.

I changed a line of code in my system directory. a window opens, clicked "OK" and instantly everything worked perfectly in all software.

Go to "Start" then click "run" added the code below exactly as it is in the window, and then click "ok" in the pop up window.

regsvr32 %windir%\system32\qdv.dll

please remember there is a space between regsvr32 and the % best to copy and paste.

hopefully anyone else that encountered the problem i had, this will rectify it..
