Audio problem with trial of Video Studio 10

Post by wh5916 »

I've been stubbornly sticking with VideoStudio 8 for the past couple of years. I tried a trial of version 9, but everything was so agonizingly slow.

With some skepticism, I downloaded/tried version 10 yesterday. For the most part, I'm delighted...very close to parting with $60.00 for the upgrade.

However, there is an audio issue that is driving me up a wall, and I'm starting to wonder if it's a deliberate, undocumented limitation of this particular trial version.

The VideoStudio 10 trial, on my own system (2.6 Ghz Intel P4, 1.5 gigs of RAM, close to 900 gigs of total hard drive space, AIW Radeon video card, Intel D865PERL motherboard, Turtle Beach Santa Cruz audio card), cannot re-render its own video without the audio being plagued with periodic popping sounds.

I first noticed this yesterday when trying to create a DVD folder using, as source material, a single 3.5 gig Mpeg-2 file that was edited/created with VideoStudio 10. The audio on the original source file sounded fine, the audio on the resulting DVD file is filled with periodic popping sounds.

Same thing will happen, I discovered awhile ago, if I re-render that source file into a brand new file using VideoStudio 10 (doing it the quick way, selecting "same as project settings" from the menu). The clone of that file will be filled with periodic popping in the audio.

VideoStudio 10 can create a decent DVD, I found out a few minutes ago--provided that I use, as source material, files that were created with VideoStudio 8. I simply can't use source material that was created with VideoStudio 10. It's as if the software is blackballing itself.

Does anyone have any ideas? Could this possibly be a deliberate, undocumented limitation in the trial of Ulead 10? I'm hesitant to consider making the purchase because of this...and because I know how slow Ulead can be when it comes to addressing problems/issuing patches.

I've tried everything I can think of, including reinstalling this particular Windows XP partition from a full backup that didn't have VideoStudio 8 on it, just in case the two versions were somehow conflicting with each other.

Is it also distorted? Try reducing the volume to 75%. I don't have VS10 yet, but I have noticed that some other Ulead programs boost the level when rendering the audio.

I would NOT assume THAT!

audio being plagued with periodic popping sounds.

wh5916,

I also notice a popping sound, but it was when I was balancing the sounds in 5.1 audio. It's a weird scratch/popping sound.

Just found out that the trial version 5.1 Dobly Digital may not work until the upgrade.

Stay tuned.....

The audio definitely wasn't distorted, and I was using the standard two channel Dolby digital option...but, in each case, VideoStudio 10 couldn't work with its own files. I also didn't select the audio "normalize" option that's available during DVD rendering with VideoStudio 10.

I actually did create a decent DVD using VideoStudio 10 last night, with beautiful menus--very impressive, I was so pleased. But, before it could be done without the end result being plagued with periodic popping sounds in the audio, I had to first take the source file (which had been created/edited with VideoStudio 10) and create a new source file (using the "Same as project settings," no alterations at all) using VideoStudio 8.

Afterwards, VideoStudio 10 worked flawlessly with the new source file that had been generated using VideoStudio 8.

Perhaps "popping" isn't the best way to describe this anomaly. The artifacts in the audio reminded me of what is frequently heard in a televised program that has been digitally compressed in order to fit a time slot.

Thank you both for the responses. I still want VideoStudio 10, the program is so fast/responsive...and I love the jog editing control. I may wait for awhile before making the purchase though.

Distorted audio

I've experienced the same problem with V10. I began this project in v9 but was unable to complete before expiration. I have version 5 and am looking for an upgrade.

I also have Pinnacle Studion V's 8, 9, and 10 but experienced video problems with them.

My project is comprised of over 300 slides (with titles and transitions) 3 video clips, and 16 sound tracks. I almost had the project finished with Version 9 with minimal problems, I just ran out of time.

I downloaded V10 and loaded the incomplete project and finished to the created DVD. I also created an mpg file for cd. The mpeg file has many distortions on the sound track. Some of them are visible as spikes, and some are not, yet I can play the native file while in the edit mode without the distortion.
