VS9 Playback in project mode is blank (black) audio OK.

Can anyone help me here. A fault has developed for me in Video Studio 9 In VS9 playback in project mode is blank (black). Sound is still audible. This is the same for any project. Individual clips are still playable in clip mode. I have uninstalled the program and reinstalled it to a different location on my pc but the problem still remains. The program is still able to render the completed project ok but I am unable to review it in project mode. Any ideas, anyone?

I am by no means sure this is the answer, but in File > Preferences > General, what have you selected under Playback Method? Instant Playback or High Quality Playback. (The latter will in effect render -- temporarily -- your project into a final form. Takes a long time.) If you choose Instant Playback (which is what I invariably choose), then a couple of slots below it in Preferences, what have you chosen as Instant Playback Tartget? I choose Preview Window... I ask because I suspect you might have chosen something like Dual Head Device, but don't have such a device connected to your computer, so that your preview output will not show up i.e the screen will remain dark.
