What's better than Media Studio Pro?

Yes I am. I'm working on a story about the history of the BBS, the big names back in those days, the biggest being Jim Maxey who founded Event Horizons BBS. He was the king, it seems and was responsible for an incredible number of neat "first time" ideas. He's a pretty interesting guy.

Then there's Phil Becker who created TBBS and a hand full of others I have to attempt to find. But so far, the top of the list being Jim Maxey of Event Horizons BBS was what made my day. And he was there when Paradise Video got online, and he was one of the eight developers of the GIF format on CIS, and created the very first video movie, and the first color images in what they then called the EGA format, which had only 16 colors at a time! And Jim Maxey uses Media Studio Pro! Go figure. I'm converted.

There are lots of old timers out there who have been forgotten and I'd like to find as many as possible and see what they're doing in the world today, and in the world of video production software.

Hope that answers your question and sorry it took so long. Been busy!

[quote="Markmen"]Janice,

That's interesting. That is, the BBS part. Are you a journalist? Have you reviewed Media Studio?

Also, if I might ask, are you doing anything or writing anything about those BBS systems which use to rule the world? Can you tell us any more?

Jim Maxey, eh? I've read lots about him. From what I can tell he was one of the founders of graphics for the PC and one of the developers of the GIF format on CIS, not to mention all the other stuff. I'd sure like to read something about this guy. He seems to have dropped out or died. Are you saying he's still alive and that you interviewed Jim Maxey?!! Any more information about what happened to Event Horizons BBS and what he's doing these days, or how to contact him? I mean, Jim Maxey was the Al Gore of graphics, and BBSes. And as you say, there are lots of others I'd like to know about. It is amazing how many people have no idea what went on before the web came along, that there was an entire community, a large one too, that existed and grew, giving way to what we have now. We need to know more about those leaders like Jim Maxey.

So, can you give us any more info?

Janice S:

If you are interested in something a little deeper then you should get into Avid Liquid 7 (pinnacle studio's big brother), or Sony Vegas 7. I have both and they are good programs. Be aware though that the price is higher as well as the learning curve. These are not programs that you will learn in 2 or 3 evenings, and both will require a little bit of EXTRA book work.

The AVID Liquid Pro comes with a FULL BOB (break out box) that even includes component ins/outs. I have not looked at your computer specs, but you need a fairly up to date machine to run either one of these. They handle video in real time as opposed to proxy (even the HD).

Unfortunately, these programs are the next step up. There is nothing really in between MSP and Avid. And the poster's original question was: " What's better than Media Studio Pro?"

The poster did not ask about being able to handle such programs... but I would imagine they would have to make that judgment for themselves. Not too hard... they both come with free trial periods.

As for a pink box.... well, I suppose if you ask Avid real nice, they might paint one pink for you.... not sure why you would want it pink though

"Cheers"
