Request Help with MovieFactory 3 and Editing Files

Post by mcammack »

I am a real novice on this, so please excuse the questions if they are real simple.
I have downloaded a trial version of MovieFactory 3. With another program, I captured a 3.2GB file from my camcorder to hard disk in MPEG-2 format. I had several different things on the camcorder cassette, and now I want to sub-divide this large file into smaller pieces, so that later on I can combine the smaller files into topic specific DVDs. For example, my grandsons first birthday and his graduation from kindergarten are on different cassettes and I would like to combine these segments on different DVDs.
I can open the mpeg-2 file, of about 3.2GB, in movie factory, but I can't find out how to edit the file by selecting a portion of it, and saving that portion as an MPEG-2 file with a different filename on my hard disk. The help system didn't seem to "Help" and I am at a loss.
I feel like this is a simple task, and I feel dumb for asking, but how do you save portions of a file in MovieFactory 3 so they can be used later in other projects?
thank you very much

Hi,
You should use VideoStudio 8 to split a file and save them
separately.
VideoStudio 8 also has a DVD creation/menu/burning module.
Before you actually split the files read the manual and tips on
the forum to help save time.

I would suggest to only extract approx a 2 minute section at first
before attempting a large extraction.
Settings for the "Project Properties", (Video_Bit_Rate, Fields, audio)
must be correct.

Hope this helps,

MD
