PI 10 - Path Tools doesn't work

Post by JoeG »

I've been using PI10 on my Win98SE machine with no problem since 2004. I've just installed it on my new Windows XP-SP2 computer, and something crazy has happened: everything works fine EXCEPT I can't change ANY of the default shapes when using the PathTool - not the outlines, arrows, none of them.

The default functions (e.g. the rectangle outline shape) work fine and I can change colors, border width, etc. However, when I try, e.g. to change the rectangle to an ellipse, nothing happens - I still get the rectangle, or when I try to change the single-headed arrow to a double-headed one, nothing changes.

I've already mentioned this to Tech Support, but was told that I should be able to do this using the Attributes Tool (I know this) and that there's never been another case of this. I'm afraid this doesn't help me very much: I'm still having the problem.

By the way, TechSupport instructed me to uninstall and re-install the program (using two different methods). I've tried both (following the instructions to the letter). It doesn't make any difference.

Maybe I'm simply doing something wrong, but as I've said, I've used this feature a thousand times on my Win98SE machine. I even downloaded and watched the little video about using the Path Tool, just in case.

If anyone has any ideas, I'll be eternally grateful. Thanks in advance.

Hi Joe

I have had the same problem a couple of times.
It worked fine for a while, but suddenly I couldn't change shape.

I have found out that it occurs when I have moved Photoimpact to my secondary screen (19" widescrren LCD).
When it happens, then I just move the program to my primary screen, and then it works fine again.

So if you also have two screens, then it may be the problem.

Sounds similar, but ...

@bchdata

Thanks very much for your reply.

In fact I do have two monitors, and both of them are 16:9 LCDs, so there are some similarities.

However, I had the exact same setup on my Windows 98SE machine, and PI10 worked fine, so it has to be something else in addition.

As I mentioned, the problem started when I got a new machine with Win XP-SP2 in conjunction with a Matrox Parhelia 128 graphics card. The card in my old machine is also a Matrox, but it's a G550.

bchdata, which OS are you using and what kind of graphics adapter?

Thanks again very much.

I had the same problem some time ago. I also have the MATROX Parhelia card although, I daubt that this has anything to do with it. Somehow, your installation didn't go through ok. Do you have a virus scanner and/or firewall running while you install?

Do a complete and utter uninstall of PI (follow the instructions below)

To reinstall the program here are the steps that Ulead suggests:

1. Please launch Windows Explorer and go to Tools>Folder>Options and on the View tab check "show hidden files and folders".

2. Empty contents of your Temp folder under C:\Windows\Temp.

3. Uninstall Ulead PhotoImpact using the Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel.

3a. Goto C:/Document and settings/ and under each user listed look for a folder called Application data. Here you may find a Ulead Systems/PhotoImpact folder. If you do open it and delete the folder corresponding with the version you are trying to re-install.

4. Go to C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems then delete the PhotoImpact folder.

5. Go to Start > Run and type: "regedit" then click OK. This will open the Registry Editor program. Go to C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information and delete the following folders if they are present:
{FE58B892-3825-4610-A6A2-E6EFCA83BD97}

6. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Uninstall and delete the following folders if they are present:
{FE58B892-3825-4610-A6A2-E6EFCA83BD97}

7. Locate the identity enclosed in curly brackets that corresponds to Ulead PhotoImpact, delete the said entry.

8. Please delete all PhotoImpact folders on the ff: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ulead Systems\

9. Close regedit and restart your computer.

10. You can now proceed to reinstalling PhotoImpact. Be sure to logon as Administrator before installing your software to avoid restrictions.

Note: Before installing, please temporarily close other running programs or applications including antivirus, norton utilities, screensaver, other memory resident programs including Internet connection, etc. to avoid unnecessary conflict and restrictions within your system.

That should do the trick, it did for me.
