VS10+ and 5.1 surround sound question

Hello,

According to the specs, VS10+ can create 5.1 surround sound for your video. My question is: Does the software import the 5.1 audio from a video source. In particular, my Sony DVD405 camera records in 5.1 audio along with 16:9 widescreen on a miniDVD and I would like whatever editing software I purchase to maintain this.

The reason I'm asking is that I almost bought another software product (I think Adobe) which also stated that it supported the creation of 5.1 audio outputs. It wasn't until I read the on-line User's Guide that I noticed the statement that 5.1 audio was converted to 2-channel stereo during the import of a DVD.

If anyone has experience with VS10+ editing of Sony DVD403/405/505 produced miniDVDs, I would love to hear about it.
