A VS10 Question

Post by ELazansky »

Hello Everyone,

I just purchased VS10+ after using the trial for a few days, and I must say it is a much better program than Pinnacle Studio. I look forward to really getting into this program to see what it can do. I was able to follow all of the helpful tutorials about creating and burning a DVD, and my first effort was a complete success. I do have one question I was hoping to get an answer on. While creating the movie, I had scene "A" end with a Fade to Black transition, then Scene "B started. On Scene "B", I added a title to display for 4 seconds as soon as the scene started. On the timeline, when I played it, it was perfect. After I rendered the movie and made the DVD, the title started playing about a second early. So, it showed up about one second before the transition ended. Not a big deal on this test movie, but I was wondering if I did something wrong or is this normal? I appreciate any help.

When you played it on the timeline, you were probably playing it in Clip view and thus it would look perfect. But in Project view or in the final rendered and burned form, the transition comes into play. If, say, you had the transition set to play for 2 seconds, then, because it is between two clips, it will overlay the last 1 second of one clip, and then the first 1 second of the next clip, thus making your title appear to be coming in early. So I would try it by setting the title one second (or half of the time allocated to the transitions) later than where it currently is.

Ken,

I kind of thought that was the problem. Just needed a second opinion. I think I'll make some small test movies to get the timing in place. Thanks.
