Video Studio 10: I'm convinced!!!

Post by jvalks »

Hello everybody!

I've played two days with the trial version. At first I could not get any good dvd output quality. I got some good advise from the tutorials on the web.

It's working great! Finnaly I can kick Pinnacle Studio 9 from my PC (allready done that before I started with VS10)..

What is left now is buying the package when I'm back from my holiday.

I did not encounter strange things at all..It's working like a charm! Didn't even have to use the manual to get arround!

Well done Ulead! You have another happy customer!

Make sure you order the boxed version instead of the ESD one -- the ESD versions don't have a "Repair" installation option that can save you from having to do a complete uninstall / reinstall of something messed up the Windows Registry.

I wish they had a date for shipping the boxes. I don't want to start my 30 day trial and not be able to buy the box for 60 days.

Heck, I would settle for them making an ISO of the CDs available for download, I'll be happy to use my own media, I just want to make sure I have the disks moving forward.

Thanks.

jvalks,

What's your hardware situation?
I bought VS 10 and I'm having several problems that did not exist under
VS 9.

This is my setup:

Intel Pentium 4, 3.2Ghz (Asus P4P800SE)
2Gig memory
Nvidia GeForce 6200A (128mb)
Pinnacle Studio Deluxe capture card

Before I started with VS10 I did a complete clean install. I installed WinXP Pro with SP2 and the latest hotfixes..

What kind of problems do you have??

Have you tried this THoff? I know I put this to Ulead during testing, and was told that was being worked on. I know with the beta versions they did have the Repair option available, so I know it was possible then.

LOL! After playing with VS10 Plus for a day I too gave Pinnacle S9+ the boot! I had been running VS9 and Studio 9+ on the same PC however I've found that VS10's new feature set includes just about everything I need. As silly as it may sound, I took great pleasure uninstalling all 5gb of my patched up, bug ridden S9+ installation ;-)

BTW, after uninstalling Pinnacle I ran Registry First Aid (a reliable registry cleaner I've been using for several years) and discovered S9+ left behind quite a bit of baggage... over 200 invalid registry entires and files. In short, a VERY dirty uninstall which thankfully was cleaned up by RFA.

No, I have not. I haven't even looked at UVS 10 yet.

If they addressed that problem it is great news, and I apologize.

I'm currently using the full (not upgrade) download version of VS10 Plus. As far as I can tell it does not offer a repair function. If you attempt to run the VS10 installer after having initially installed the program the only option offered is a "do you want to completely remove" YES/CANCEL checkbox. That said, I suppose it's possible that a repair option **might** be offered after one ticks the "yes" box but I didn't want to try and risk an uninstall since I'm happy with my installation. Same goes for Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and no repair option offered from Start > All Programs > Ulead VideoStudio 10 either.

Looks like the Repair option for ESD versions is still AWOL.

I'm not really surprised, the files are packaged differently, so Ulead would have to support two different Repair procedures, and accessing individual files in the ESD download may even not be possible.

Yes, this does seem to be the case however looking at the included readme I found this (in reference to lost codecs and fonts) ... "To install them back to VideoStudio 10, double-click Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel, select Ulead VideoStudio 10, click Change/Remove, then click Repair".

Well that's another one that they skipped over, they were made aware of keyframe issues with several of the video filters. What I have found is they ignored them.

Yet it seems kind of strange that (after successfully installing VS10) if you run the installer exe you are only prompted to confirm an uninstall operation. In other words, it won't allow you to reinstall over the existing installation. I almost get the feeling a modify/repair/remove prompt might appear after selecting "yes" (in response to the confirm uninstall dialog) but I haven't been brave enough to risk it since my existing installation is working so well :?

Doesn't the ESD download version extract into a directory first and then installs VS10 from the extracted directory?

When I download MF5 it extracts into a directory that I assigned.
I still installed the program from within that directory but also burnt a CD
from the extracted directory.
I then installed onto the Laptop using the CD i burnt from the extracted files from the ESD file.

MF5 did but VS10 did not.
