Has anyone installed and actually used with DL DVD media the VS9 Update pack, 8/12/05 that provides DVD-R Dual Layer Support?

I've only burned DVD+DL media, and then using bitsetting to make it appear as a DVD-ROM. I have the patch installed, but don't use DVD-DL media (though I have burned DVD-R disks).
DVD-DL doesn't have bitsetting, and as a result, compatibility of this media will be spotty with anything but the latest standalone DVD players.

Thanks THoff.
My understanding about book type (bitset) was that you couldn't change the bitset on a DVD-R disc as the lead-in area is pre-written when the disc is manufactured, unlike a DVD+R that is left blank. If this is in fact correct, any ideas as to why Ulead choose to provide support for a media type with the least compatability?

Probably because the media exists, and people would ask for support if it wasn't there. Why anyone would use it, I don't know. I only use DVD-R disks for data archiving, but not for DVD Video -- for the latter, I use DVD+R or DVD+DL with a book type of "DVD-ROM".erock1 wrote:Thanks THoff.

DVD-R came out before DVD+R, and initially DVD burners supported one format or the other, not both. Some standalone DVD recorders / DVRs still have these media limitations.
