VS 10 and Kodak *.MOV files
Can anyone tell me whether the new VS10 will handle Kodak .MOV files and convert them for use for DVD production.

I recently purchases a Panasonic camera and it also produces .mov files. Ulead converts them just fine.davemac wrote:. I have the Kodak Easy Share V550 & would like to use it in DVD's since it is so easy to carry around. I'm not in a position to tell what the latest format of the MOV file would be.

You should be fine David. Kodak and Ulead are licensed by Apple to use the Quicktime codec. I would be very surprized if Kodak's .mov encoder was non-standard.davemac wrote:Thanks for replying. I assume VS10 would deal with the latest. Thanks again for your help.

Unfortunately, I have discovered that whilst they will "play" in the timeline, they will not be converted to MPG. I downloaded the trial version of VS10. Actually, when playing the file the timer races through quickly to the end of the clip while the clip itself keeps playing through to the end.
I'm disappointed as I have been waiting to upgrade hoping that this problem would be rectified.

Do you have any other .MOV files to experiment with? My test files played normally on the time line (timer ran at proper rate) and converting to MPEG wasn't a problem. I'm just wondering if your issue is somehow specific to Kodak .MOV clips or perhaps a bug within your VS10 installation.

MOV files are containers just like avi files.
Use VS to CREATE a MOV file and look at all the different codecs along with
audio codecs you can use for the video that gets held in the container MOV.
Depending on the codec some will convert and some will not using VS.
I've gotten the probmatic ones to convert but it's not an easy process.
MOV files using the Photo-jPEG codec along with the Ulaw2.1 audio 16bit can tbe converted.
The earlier easyshare cameras use Ulaw 2.1 8bit audio and H.263 @ 15fps.
The Kodak cameras use a few different formats for video and they all have the
extension .MOV
After you importing the MOV file and look at the properties if the video codec is H.263 then that is a problem to convert in VS.

In that case perhaps he could create compliant MPEG files using a standalone converter such as AVS Video Tools which supports H.263, H.264, 3GPP, 3G2 and MOV QuickTime.
