help with capturing video

I have some old hi8mm tapes wich i want to convert to dvd and i am using a usb capture device.when i am capturing the video i see video and hear audio,yet when i am done and play the clip...i hear no audio.Any suggestions? using videostudio 8.Thanks in advance
