Videostudio8
I have recently acquired a copy of Videostudio8 as part of a bundle when I purchased a Firewire card. I have managed to delete unwanted video and add titles. I now want to lower the level of background noise ie wind noise.I can select the Audio Mixing Panel and the bar graphs are active but no there is no sound, sound is OK otherwise. Altering the levels has no effect on the project. Can anyone offer any advice please?

Removing unwanted background sounds is a bit of a science and rarely successful (unless perhaps you have a TV production studio and thousands of pounds worth of gear)
Best we can do is to export the sound track as a WAV file then edit the soundtrack with a specialised audio editor. One such program is Audacity and can be found in our links to free stuff

After tweaking the sound track with an audio editor you save the new file in WAV format, then use it to replace the one in VideoStudio.

I'm going to jump in and add to this. It's more about plugging Audacity in this regard. Somewhere on this forum I had posted about it, but that was a few hundred posts ago, so rather then try to find it, I'll just add it again here.
I was hired by a nephew to produce a video/slideshow for his bride, to be played during the wedding reception. One of the video clips that he wanted to use was when he first met her. It was inside a small crowded and noisy diner. The clip was very significant, because he had just met her, and while he was playing around filming, he asked her when she was going to marry him. She replied with something like when are you going to ask me. Well this audio could barely be heard, due to all the background chatter. Now he was really needing this to stand out. I told him at the time, if I had a few thousand $$$ I might be able to accomplish it. So after he left I knew I had Audacity and it had the abiltiy to remove unwanted background noise. I had never dreamed a free program could do what it done. He (and I) were pleasantly surprised when the audio was clear as a bell....
So the moral of the story is, yes it is very tricky, but sometimes miracles happen....
