Video Studio 10 Plus Problems
Yesterday I downloaded VS10+ and discovered the capture module doesn't support my Happauge PVR-250.
I wish Ulead programmers would talk to each other, the capture module in Movie Factory 5 supports all my capture devices, which are HD Video Camera, ATI All In Wonder Pro, DV Camcorder, DVICO High Definition Capture card (supports digital and analogue) and JVC High Definition Tape device.
I hope everything else works.

Didn't take long for the first problem to arise

Re: Video Studio 10 Plus Problems
This has been my only complaint with both VS10 Plus and MF5. As far as I can tell neither of them supports my Hauppauge PVR USB2 device. Ulead released a patch for MF4 which worked great so I'm hoping they do the same for MF5 and VS10. In the meantime I'm capturing through Hauppauge's supplied software and importing. Other than that. no VS10 or MF5 problems so far. In most respects Ulead's design team seem to have kicked it up a notch with their most recent productstyamada wrote:Yesterday I downloaded VS10+ and discovered the capture module doesn't support my Happauge PVR-250.

There was an additional download for VideoStudio 9 to allow you to capture with Hauppauge's PVR150, 250, and 350. Maybe there's something similar for version 10?
p.s. Just checked and my PVR150 is showing as a capture source - could be because I've still got VS9 installed with the aforementioned patch?

Thanks for your comment Tim. The Hauppauge patch did the trick for me with both VS9 and MF4 but so far nothing like that is available for VS10 or MF5. The VS10 "readme" does mention that if one installs VS10 before uninstalling VS9, certain settings will be transferred but this was in reference to codecs and fonts. Your PVR 150 compatibility might be more of an indication that Ulead's most recent products have wider capture device compatibilites versus previous versions. In my case, I'm using the USB2 version of WinTV PVR and I suspect it's USB drivers might not be compatible without a patch. I do hope Ulead will look at this issue but in the meantime it's not all that inconvenient to capture through the Happauge UI and import to VS10.TimA-C wrote:There was an additional download for VideoStudio 9 to allow you to capture with Hauppauge's PVR150, 250, and 350. V 10 Hauppauge
I have a Hauppauge Nova T-USB2 WinTV capture unit. It captures TV programs into mpeg format. With V9 it was easy to import this into video studio 9 (remove ads)and then go to share and cut a dvd disk immediately. V10 will not let me do this though it seems to trandfer the data onto the disk but will not play. If I make a rendered video file first it also transfers ok and will indeed play on windows media player but will not play on my dvd player which can really play almost anything round that turns!
It is not an immediate problem as I will continue to use V9 for this function. All other V10 features includung the solving of some bugs seem to be OK

Just to throw in my two pence worth.
My Hauppauge PVR 350 PCI card works fine with VS9 but doesn't work with VS10.
Did a few attempts at moving dll files etc from VS9 to the VS10 directory to no avail. Looks like we need a patch. No big deal for me as I capture witrh WinTV2000 anyway but I am more concerned for other users.

RE: Recording in Video Studio 10 +
yeh, I have the same problem as well. VS 10+ does not capture TV at all...in actual fact although it says it recognises my capture card, which is a 'Hauppauge WinTV PCI 11' it wont even tune into my TV aerial cable. It was always like this in VS8 as well, but with VS 9 after adding the patch it worked after a fashion
Luckily I have a 'media centre' PC so I record mainly through this, but it would be nice if Ulead could get thier act together and make VS compatable with the Hauppage TV cards. They for sure no of the incompatabilty issues as I spoke with them as far back as VS 8, and they told me then that their programmes did not recognise Hauppage TV cards

I also have a Hauppauge PVR250, and would like to be able to capture from within UVS10+. I've been evaluating for 2 days, being a former user of UVS7. I found out pretty quickly that capture didn't work.
I'm having a strange problem though, which seems to involve my PVR250 capture card even when I'm not trying to capture: Twice now, I've tried to import DVD files from a non-system hard drive on the computer. Each time, instead of bringing up a file navigation dialog, the program locks up to the extent that I can't even ctrl-alt-del out of it, but have to do a hard reset. When the system reboots, the Hauppauge PVR250 card comes up as new hardware! XP is unable to reinstall it though because it says it "can't find the necessary software." I have to clean all Hauppauge apps and drivers out of the system (using hcwclear.exe) and restart again before the PVR250 can be reinstalled properly. Has anyone else run into this kind of problem?
It's not a total deal-breaker, because I can still use SageRecorder or WinTV2000 to capture with the PVR250, and I can continue to use Tmpgenc DVD Author Pro to import DVD files and rebuild. But if 2 major functions are not working for me in UVS10+, it makes me wonder what else might not work. Is it worth the upgrade price for me? The main appeal was to take video clips recorded from TV or from ripped DVD's, add a pre-configured website url as a text title, and output to DivX and/or WMV files for my website. It would be nice to be able to do it all in one piece of software, instead of the 3 or 4 I have to use now. I guess I can still do most of it -- as long as it doesn't crash on me.

I have a Dvico Fusion HDTV DVB-T card and VS 10 had no problem finding it and searching for the channels. It records SD broadcasts with ease, but HD programs are "jerky". This is OK as I usually just record SD and burn to DVD. However, although the oringinal SD recording is perfect, when I use VS 10 to burn it, the end result is a "jerky" DVD! I have checked all the settings and it all seems OK, PAL, 25 fps etc. So does anyone have any clue as to what may be wrong?
I was prepared to shell out the cash to upgrade to 10 but this problem makes the whole thing useless. I thought it was great that I could record, edit and burn all in one program, even the Ad-Zapper was good. Just one click and all the ads were detected and it was just a matter of clicking delete! Wonderful! But what is the good of all this great technology if you end up with a crappy DVD?
So, if anyone knows what might be wrong, I will be pleased to hear. IF SOMEONE FROM ULEAD READS THIS, PLEASE GET THE SOFTWARE RIGHT BEFORE RELEASING IT.

OK, it is time to eat humble pie
As they say, if all else fails, read the instructions! Well, now I have done it and found that Ulead DID get the software right in the first place. The solution to my problem was;
I love the fact that it finds all the ads for you!
A JOB WELL DONE ULEAD!

So now it all seems to work well.1) Always Create a Video File for your project before attempting to burn a DVD,
(2) Never try to burn a DVD with anything in the timeline display,

I'm happy for you Russty, but my problem hasn't been solved at all. I posted earlier:

This just happened again. This mean's that not only can I not capture with VS10+, but I can't import DVD files from hard drive or DVD-rom drive either, which should have nothing to do with the PVR250 card! I don't believe it's my system, cause it's a fresh installation with all DirectX and XP Pro (SP2) updates, and I am able to capture with the Hauppauge software and with Sage. Also, I am able to import the same DVD files into DVD Lab Pro and/or TMPGenc DVD Author Pro 2.0.
THis could very well be a deal breaker after all! I can do without capturing, but not being able to import DVD files without saving them to MPG2 first is ridiculous!

Mary H:
You might be better off using Movie Factory 5, the capture module works with all my capture devices to include the Hauppauge PVR-250. I find it strange that your PVR-250 is being found on a reboot. You might want to ensure the card is properly seated or change PCI slots, see if that helps the found new hardware problem.
I'm not sure what your hard drive problem is but, I just had one go bad on me, it caused my computer to do strange things, from being slow to locking up. You might want to run a CHKDSK on your hard drives.
