aplying transitions to multiple clips

Post by nick200 »

Is there an option to apply a particular transition (eg: good ole crossfade) automatically between every clip rather than manually dragging it across for every new clip on the timeline.

Also - when setting the default transition duration, it seems only possible to define this in whole seconds eg: 00:01 s , but when clicking on this transition you can define a time period less eg: 00:00:20. anyone know of a way to set the default lower than a single second unit ?

Thanks, Nick,

yes, you can define a default transition in Preferences "random" is even an option (gulp!)
no, you can't have a default of something else than an integer number of seconds

uhm, interesting i did set the preference transition to crossfade - but was never sure when this was actually used ?

So once you have set this as the default. how is the default applied ?

thx, Nick.

Hi Nick,

It is applied whenever you have 2 or more clips in the timeline, it will add the default transitiion.. Just drag or insert a video clip into the timeline/storyboard. Then drag a second or more clips, and viola the transition is applied between them. You can go back and change individual ones by using the effects tab or by clicking on the transition..

Hi Nick

Also:-
If you double click a transition in the library, the transition will be inserted into the timeline in the next available position.

If you have a lot of transitions to insert, of the same type (crossfade)

1 / Set the File-Preferences to ‘Use Default Transition Effect’ 'Crossfade'
2 / Start a new library page.
3 / Drag all your video clips from the timeline to the library
4 / Delete the clips from the timeline.
5 / Drag the clips from the library to the timeline.
Vs will insert the transitions.

Thanks for replies, its now clear.

My misunderstanding was based around the fact that I had all my clips already in the timeline - hence no default was ever applied but as you say by dragging them to the library then back again the default transition is then applied !

Thanks again, Nick.
