Crash on startup, PI 8 & 10

Post by PicMaker »

Suddenly for no apparent reason PI 8 started crashing on startup. It would appear to start but stopped with a blank gray screen with an hourglass cursor. If I attempted to do anything it would indicate "not responding" and I had to "end task" to close it.

I had a copy of PI 10 on my other computer so I uninstalled 8 and installed 10 plus the patch expecting that install to rebuild any corrupted files caused by 8. Guess what? No change. The same problem is still there with PI 10. I uninstalled and reinstalled 10 just to make sure. No luck.

Both PI 8 and 10 work fine on my other computer.

Just before this problem occurred 4 Microsoft security updates were loaded on 4/13/06. They were KB908531, KB911562, KB911567, and KB912812. Could they have any thing to do with this or was that just a coincidence? The same updates are on my other computer and PI doesn't have a problem.

I saw the post in Jan about deleting the current.xum file. That didn't help.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Crash on startup, PI 8 & 10

I got it working but I am not sure what corrected the problem. Here is all that I did.

Uninstalled PI 10 and PI Explorer 8.5

Deleted all Application Data files related to PI.

Installed and ran Registry Mechanic 5.1 and fixed all errors found. There were 532 errors since it had never been run before.

Rebooted

Reinstalled PI 10 and PI Explorer 8.5.

Started PI 10 and it worked.
