Video imported, too wide... How to convert to normal size???

Post by percyv143 »

hi. i just imported a video from my minidv and the ouput video is too wide, where the body is wide like it is stretched horizontally. i thought i could just import it again but i had already re-used the tape. is there a way that i can convert the imported mpeg video to a normal size mpeg file? thanks.

if you have swiped your tape then you are stuck.

this problem is caused by the non sq pix render being checked on capture.

I have raised this with ulead to no avail.

to get around this i used Movie Maker 2 in xp to capture video then imported to VS8.

A possible solution is that you custon your settings. I note in DVD WS2 that when it gets squished the properties are 720 x 555 instead of 720 x576. if you custom a larger depth it may or may not work!

moral of this situation keep your tapes!

Do you still have the source video? If so look up a free program callled g-spot ( that't it's name) It will give you all the info about the video, then post it here.

The other question I have is this footage taped in 16:9 or 4:3. This should be easily fixable. Most likely you have changed the header info in your video along the way.

Open up VS and go to insert a file, click on the file to highlight it then click the info button down on the left.

You should see this dialog box, where I've circled in red the final attibut should be whatever you filmed it in 16:9 or 4:3

Whatever it is take a screenshot and post it.

OK pretty simple, you somehow lost the header info. See there's no 16:9 or 4:3 Go hear and download Restream. http://shh.sysh.de/

Make abackup of your file of your video, open it with restream. You will have to selct the all files in the files type box. At the very top it will probably list the video with aspect of 1:1. Change it to whattever you filmed it in. Either 16:9 or 4:3. Got to the bottom and click write, I'm pretty sure by default it creates an additional file but it shouldn't take that long. About as long as it took to copy it.

Coalman - does it mean anything that your video is a mpeg-2 and percyv143's is a mpeg-1?

Yes it does, I don't think you can set the aspect ratio in mpeg1. I was trying to avoid having him reenecode it....

Percy the only suggestion I have for you is load the clip into VS8 and create a video file using the NTSC (or pal) template. That will set your aspect correctly.

ok. i will reencode the video again using NTSC at Mpeg2. then i'll check the output video. thanks.
