DirectX 9.0C and Ulead's lack of support for MF5
I have both MF 4 & 5 and whenever I try to install either one it tells me I need Direct X 9.0 or above. Now mind you I'm an application engineer so I am really not dumb. 9.0c is installed but MF5 still refuses to install. Ulead refuses to do anything about it. There is nothing in Ulead or Microsoft's knowledge bases. There has to be someone who knows what is causing it. Trust me I am not about to reload for some sloppy install program. I would fix it myself and take the directX condition out of the install myself but admin studio will not edit an exe.

When you use regedit to check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DirectX, what do you see?
When you go to Microsoft Windows Update, is there a DirectX download over there?
I would suggest you go to Microsoft website to download DirectX 9 runtime again to see if the case can be solved. Sometimes DirectX runtime DLLs might get corrupted.
I have DirectX 9.0.0904 installed and DVDMF 5 can be installed properly.
Hope this helps.

directx 9.0C
No it doesn't. As I said I'm an applications engineer. Lets see first I ran the original 9.0 sdk which updated nothing and DVDMF5 could not be installed. Then I ran the feb Direct X sdk update that copied a few things but still DVDMF5 does not install. Lastly I run the april 2006 update to DirectX 9.0c sdk redist and still DVDMF5 will not install. Oh the reg key your speaking of lists the version for DirectX as 4.09.00.0904

If the DirectX version is not changed, DirectX SDK will not update the runtime DLLs so the DLL corruption problem will still exist.
Try to change the DirectX version to an earlier version number in the registry setting and then install DirectX again. It might helps.
If it does not help then you will need a clean OS re-install. This time, install it without the SDK, only the DirectX runtime.
Since you said you are also an application engineer, you must know it's very easy to get your system dirty and get DLL files corrupted. Sometimes it's a pain to solve the problem by doing a clean OS re-install but in some cases it's a must.
Hope this helps.

Direct X
This is a clean install already and yes I do but in this case it seems more like one an incompatibility or two poor coding on uleads part. Instead of building a condition into DVDMF5 requiring directX all they had to was include the redist on the cd and build a custom action into the install shield package and have it ask at the end if you want to install directX 9.0 or not like everybody else in the industry does. This machine was just built and I will get a refund before I reinstall due to poor coding

Have you updated Windows Installer to v3.0? It's in Microsoft Windows Update.
Any error message when you install the software?
Hope this helps.
