I'm trying to transfer tapes from a Sony high dev recorder to DVDs using MovieFactory 5 and the drive on my Windows XP machine. I bought a new firewire cable. Most of the time, I get the message "Failed to connect: Sony DV driver."
Sometimes it sees the Sony and I can capture but the DVD format and burn icons are greyed out. MovieFactory 5 displays my DVD drive when starting up but doesn't seem to know its there once I want to burn the DVD.
Suggestions? I couldn't find anything in the manual about capture drivers.
Seems like it should all be easier than this.

Two possible problems.
1. Faulty new Firewire Cable
2. Badly seated Firewire Card. - Try taking it out of the Motherboard and inserting it again.
I have a Sony camcorder. There were no special drivers that I had to install, everything was already included with the installation of MovieFactory/Windows XP.
