OK here's the deal. I have Video Studio 7 SE DVD that came with my Videomate TV Gold + card I recently purchased. I can capture the video clips fine, but when I go to the Edit tab, I get an error report dialog and I have to close it. Fortunately the video does make it to the library and when I reopen VS 7 SE in the edit tab, the clip is there and I can edit and complete as normal so fortunately all is not lost but it is annoying to say the least to have to re-open the program after the error.
Here are my system specs:
Dell Dimension 4600, running a 2.4 GHz processor.
512 MB RAM
Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2.
GeForce 4 MX 440 with AGP8X video card,
60 GB hard disk with 28 GB currently free,
Videomate TV Gold + capture card.
The dell system was purchased in June of 2003.
I've been using the default video bit rate settings for MPEG2 video. Should I lower the rate? I've seen posts throughout this forum about setting the rate to 4000 Kbps VBR for VHS tapes, which is what I'm capturing from a VCR hooked to the capture card. IN case I didn't mention, the software did come with the card so there shouldn't be compatibility issues with the software and the card. Any suggestions or solutions here.
Thanks.
Error after capturing

Default bitrate is 6Mbps - so that is not causing the crash. Does it crash immediately when you select the EDIT tab or some time later? Note that Ulead website has an update for VS7SE that fixes a memory leak bug that would impact Edit mode.
In any case, the default properties may be incorrect for capturing analog video (use Upper Field First). Also, first thing you have to do in edit mode is to set the Project properties to match the video properties. I would strongly suggest that you read the top post and follow the recommended procedure for avoiding bugs and controlling properties.

Well when the crash occurs is after the video is captured. IT happens when I click on the edit tab. ONce I come back into UVS in edit mode, everything is fine from there through completion of the project. I will try your recomendation to see if that helps.
