Installation problems with VideoStudio 8

Post by Shtevie »

I need some help and the website doesn't address this issue. I purchased a Q-Stor firewire cardbus adapter from Buy.com for my laptop and it came with bundled software. The disc has the capital letters: QFASCB on top and the words: ULEAD VIDEO STUDIO at the bottom with a serial number below that. I've explored the disc and according to the readme help file, this is VideoStudio 8. However, when I begin the installation process, and I get to the page to enter the serial number, the number I have is short 2 digits in the first group (there are 3 groups separated by hypens) and I cannot continue ("NEXT" will not highlight). If I add 2 zeroes to the 3 alphanumeric digits I have, "Next" highlights, but when I click on it, I get the message "Serial number is invalid".
Can anyone in Tech Support help me on this one?

I can't help you. But I just wanted to let you know that Tech Support has never to my knowledge (of 4 years use of it) intervened on this Board. I think you have to contact them directly. That being said, in the bundle, did the VS8 disc come in a white envelope? It would be more normal for the serial number to be on that. I have to add that with bundled Ulead software (i.e. SE editions) in the past, the serial number has actually been embedded in the installation process, rather than requiring you to actually enter one. But obviously this has not occurred in your case...

Thanks for the quick response.

No, the sn was printed on the disc, not the envelope. And it seems to be a full version of Video Studio 8, not a SE. Tech support on the Q-Stor website addresses the issue in a FAQ, claiming that the sn is indeed located in a file on the disc. The location they give does not appear to be on the disc, as far as I can tell. I am trying to get in touch with them by email and phone. Hopefully, they will be able to help me.

Thanks.

PS How do I contact Ulead Tech support directly? (without a fee.)

Ulead Tech support will only assist registered users and so until you get the serial number you can't get registered.
Therefore you need to contact the company that sold you the disc and get them to sort this out for you.

I assume you have explored every .TXT file on the disc, and looked for folders labelled SN or Key or something like that?
