Importing Images into VS Problem

Post by Marlene »

I recently purchased VS 9 and am in the process of going through the tutorials on the DVD "Getting Results with Video Studio 9".

I had no problem bringing the video and audio files into the library but it will not let me bring in image files. I tried some image files that were not from the DVD tutorial and they were rejected too.

Any suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong?

They open in the library in the same way as you open a video or audio file.
If they fail to open then it is possible you have a corrupt installation.
If you have the version of VideoStudio that came on a CD then run the instllation program again and you will find a repair option.

Could you also describe how you have been attempting to import them, and what format they are in (e.g. .jpg, .bmp...?).

Thanks for your replies.

I do have the disk and it didn't come up with a repair option so I just reinstalled from the disk. I didn't realize there was the other stuff with it i.e. under smart download. Now two of the content packs won't download. GRRR. I'll try to figure that out later as right now I am downloading, or re-downloading I should say the plug-ins from the Ulead site.

After all of that I'll see if I can bring in the image files.

The wording in the tutorial is kind of strange. First it goes through bringing files into the library i.e. video and audio which worked just fine for me. Then it says
"Repeat steps 1 to 9 for image files. Substitute 'image' for 'Video' in step 3. Select All files in step 8. (It will complain about non-image files. That's okay.)"
And that's where it ends.

It sounds strange to me that you would select "all files" - why not just image file extensions i.e. jpg or bmp?

Just on the disc side of things, did you purchase the download version over the internet, plus the back-up disc, or did you buy the full boxed edition in a store? The repair option is, AFAIK, only available on the latter. Moreover, if you have the full boxed version, then you should have two discs, and on the second disc you will have all the extra content which needs mostly to be installed manually. Owners of the full boxed edition don't need to go to Smart Download (which, as you have found, is very far from being Smart!! )

I am afraid also that I have not read the tutorial to which you refer. I simply 'Insert Image' in the library (or timeline) as has already been described by the others. So I can't comment on the reference to 'All Files'...

:o For what it's worth. I use a lot of images for my movies. I just have them prepared and saved in a separate folder (i.e. sized in pixels, saved as jpg, and high compression.) When I work on my project, I just go to the insert folder in the lower left hand corner, go to images, browse to my image folder and insert however many of the pictures I am going to use for that segment. I love the pan and zoom!

If I want to keep them handy (in case I want to move them around in the project), I just drag and drop them into the image library.

Good luck Marlene. I really do love Ulead STudio 9 except right now I can't burn my dvd. But that's another story. I have been using VS for four years.

I checked out the contest. When is Video Studio 10 coming? That may be the answer to my problem. Just get rid of all of junk on my computer, buy the full program this time, and start over!

I'm the one with the 4507 error.

The contest ends 31 May 2006. There will then be a period of voting
( Please view http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=12885 )
I seem to recall the last competition that the voting lasted for about 2 weeks.
That takes us to Mid June.

I am not a Beta Tester of Video Studio 10 and Ulead have not given me any extra indication of a release date. I would however be very surprised if at the end of the competition, that winners would be expected to wait before being given their prize.

Actually this is what I did when I had the free trial which makes good sense to me however I wanted to go through the tutorials and pick up some hints, etc.

Ken I purchased it online and purchased the disk as well. You answered something I was wondering about - Why did I get two disks? No box and/or book though just the tutorial disk by Charlie Hills that I bought in addition to the program. I was just going to ask what you meant by repair option but I guess it would have been on the "other" disk I have right?

Anyway, just so you know the new download didn't change a thing as to being able to bring the images into the program library. I'll just do as the rest of you do which as I stated earlier makes good sense to me.

Thank you to all for your input. If I come across some great revelation on this I'll let you know.

I just looked at both disks and they both say - UVS9-na-e-RTM-3-.exe and the size of both of them is 680 MB.

So I would say I do have two identical disks don't you think?

Using winzip extract the exe file to a folder and it will create several folders with files. You can now compare both.

Hellllooo I'm back :!:

Same problem - cannot open images any which way - cannot bring into library, cannot drag to library, cannot copy & paste, cannot open through the insert folder on the bottom left side. BTW the images are jpg.

Downloaded Winzip and unzipped the .exe files on disk and there is no repair option (AFAIK).

Any new suggestions?

It sounds like you have a corrupt install. Have you tried to do a complete un-install/re-install?

For directions read the following post:

Yes I have been down this road before. After the last re-install I was able to open images through the "open images" from the bottom left side.

But I guess what have I to lose. Will do it again. Will let you know if it works this time and for any period of time.

Thanks.

Marlene,

With the ESD versions, there is not the repair option, and the Back-up CD's that Element 5 sells are just the ESD version on CD. I've tore them apart trying to make an install disk out of them, can't be done.

When you install try shutting down everything you can. Anti-virus, firewall, anything that runs in the background. Also do you get any errors, like CRC errors when installing? If so that may indicate that the files could be corrupt. I had it happen to me, when I first purchased VS9. I had to recontact Element 5, and they provided a replacement CD.

We will do what we can to get this running for you...:)
