Hope someone could give me some advice regarding what appears to be inconsistency. I am using Videostudio 9 for making dvds from downloaded files from the Internet. Successful mainly.
My problem: I used WM Recorder to capture streaming footage and they play fine in WM Player. I have even successfully made a dvd from some of these files in weeks gone by. But today the audio appears random, but not in all files in my timeline. I have noticed that for some, if in "clip" mode the audio plays but if I go to "project" it doesn't. When burning to disc the audio is not there.
I have not changed any settings and am at a loss to work it out.
Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark,
While you have been successful in producing DVDs with downloaded files, sooner or later this happens. However before we are able to help we need to know a bit more information.
Please view these:
Read This First Sticky
Recommended Procedures
We need to know your project settings, the file properties, and if you can complete your system information in your profile. I know right now that your OS is Windows XP..
I suspect that you are working with DivX or Xvid files, possibly WMV. All of these are highly compressed formats, and are intended for viewing, not editing.

Thanks Ron
I have provided as much info as possible. I am not totally across all aspects unfortunately.
Nature of the problem: audio not playing in "project" mode but is in "clip" mode but is inconsistent with other files of the same format where the audio will play.
Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?)
Format WMV, downloaded using WM Recorder from Internet. File sizes anywhere from 10 - 100MB.
What devices are involved and their mode of connection?
I am on cable, no external devices involved.
Project Settings: Using Movie Wizard to insert file. At this point if I preview there is no audio. The file plays fine in WM Player.
Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD)
DVD, if I get that far. Have attempted to make a DVD but the sound was absent. I also saved project as a videofile but sound was also absent.
PAL or NTSC
PAL
Error Codes (if any)
No error codes. Videostudio9 seems to lack error messages in my experience.
System information (please fill this up in your User Profile).
Have completed as much as I was able to.
Thanks
Mark

Streaming video comes in four major flavors: Windows Media, Real, Flash and QuickTime. Were all you clips from the same source format?
Some streaming formats are copy protected using DRM (Digital Rights Management). This means that stream capture programs won't work.
The Supported File Types of WM Recorder are: WMA, WMV, ASF, ASX, MPEG, AVI, WAV
Unfortunately I am unable to see which flavour of AVI it refers to.
You would do well to read the following article and the links mentioned within it:
6th post down http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=11923
This will give you a better understanding of the various file types and issues involved.
Primarily the Ulead software is designed for video captured from camcorders though it does work with other sources such as TV cards.

work around to wmv audio problem
Thanks for the assistance here. The particular file that alerted me to a sound problem was from a different source to other wmv files I have managed to use in the past. But as I had been able to use these previous files prior to today with no issue I don't think it is the source.
But as a work around I used a wmv to mpeg converter to convert the file. It worked like a dream so the reasons I got these sound issues can stay a mystery.
