actual recording time and date?

Post by oxente »

Just bought VideoStudio 9, captured my first DV, and am starting to edit. One thing that seems so basic and I really want is to be able to view the actual recording date and time of each clip when I am editing a project. I'm doing very simple editing of footage of baby son, and I just want to know when the video was filmed as I edit.

Please tell me this is possible in VS9.

Thanks!

H Oxente, welcome to the forums,

To have the DV Timecode displayed, go to File>Preferences, and at the bottom of the first tab, check the box beside Display DV Timecode. It will be displayed, however will not be visable in your finished video product..

Hope that helps...:)

Ron,

Thanks so much for the quick reply :!: I checked that box and still don't see the time data for my clips. What am I missing?

Or do I have to select that option before capturing the DV video?

Thanks,

Zeke

Sorry--I see it now. You have to play the clip. I thought it was going to be more like Windows MovieMaker. Still wish you'd get that info in properties for the clip, but thank you, that's great!

DV TIMECODE after burn

Post by DADSGETNDOWN »

No way to have the ORIGINAL dv time code with or without editing or anyway at all to be visible either in cd, vcd, svcd or dvd format? I like to just copy from my Camcorder and burn no editing nothing, just original recording with Time and Date code. or maybe in other words following Sir vidoman's reply yes in ANY type of finished product ! IF not I guess I better hang on to these here original dv cassette tapes, I would be absolutely Shocked IF it can't be done, after all this is our way of preserving, and making copies of memories we can send or give to the whole family or friends and Time and Dates with out editing is mandatory, another thing I do is tape criminal activity or stupid people tricks and burn to cd and law enforcement etc need to see the Time and Date !!!.

Ah yes but that's only true if you tape a single event and that sort of thing, plus you need to think about the future conan in the year 2000 :) the OPTION is mandatory. what if you're on a trip/vacation you tape for a bit in one city/county/state/function or landmark then the next day or 2 on the same tape you tape for a bit more in a different city/county/state/function or landmark. there are gazillions of reasons to need or want the time and date stamp. what if you've been taping for sometime and some miracle or disaster happens you will NEED the time and date for and it's not there.

The point made by bhbuckeye is to only show the time/date for a few seconds at the start of a new location.
what I do is to insert a TITLE clip or a TITLE overlay where I want my audience to be told "This is where we are now" which is much more interesting than that distracting camcorder display.

Why not using a scrolling newsticker like this one:

DVDdate

Post by chernym »

DVDdate is a free application which will all add date/time text to your AVI files. It is a simple application with some options. I think it is quite sufficient for simple home movies
