If you have the Upgrade version, then to install it the program has to be able to detect a previous version of Video Studio on the computer. As I understand it, this can be version 6, 7 or 8 (and perhaps 5?) It does not have to be the full version, even an SE version on a disc which comes bundled with hardware will do. And in fact, you normally don't even have to install the program first -- simply put the earlier disc in one of your computer drives during installation of VS 9, and the installation program should see it, accept you have the earlier version, and then go on to install VS9.

As I understand it, after you downloaded the upgrade version, you did not first uninstall the trial version, and simply loaded the upgrade over the top of the trial version (I assume you did this since the installation may have counted the trial version as an 'earlier version'...). But in doing so, it possibly only replaced the existing trial files, and did not install all the rest of the program e.g. all the filters.

Sorry I misunderstood your first post. But there is still some (considerable) confusion here. If I now understand you correctly, you first purchased the licence for the full download version of VS9, and not the trial version. Is that correct? But you did not order the back-up disc by mail. You installed the program and it worked. OK so far?

But then somehow you got the idea there was an upgrade, but thought you had to buy another version of the program? Correct? So you bought the Upgrade version and downloaded that also, and it uninstalled the original installation. And after rebooting your computer, the Upgrade version could not find another version of Video Studio and would not load. Correct?

Well, if the above is correct, then I am sorry to say you have paid twice for a single product. The first version you bought was the full version. What you are calling an 'upgrade' I think really only means the update patches which are available free on the Ulead web site.

And as I explained in my original post, the second version you bought, the Upgrade version, is also a full version. But once you uninstalled the original full version, the Upgrade version will always look for a previous version, and will not install unless it thinks you have a previous version.

If all this is still correct, then you should reinstall the first version, and then go to the Ulead site and download the FREE updates for it. You don't need to pay any more for those updates. And you should also approach Ulead for a refund of the price of the second, Upgrade version you bought mistakenly.

I still don't think you've fully grasped what Ken has pointed out.
Your Original Download Version of Video Studio and the other one you have the "Upgrade version" they are one and the same.
You dont install both, you install one or the other.

The upgrade version is not an upgrade of your exisiting Version 9.
The upgrade version is what you buy if you have an earlier version such as version 8 which you want to upgrade to version 9.

Do not confuse UPGRADE with UPDATE.

You UPGRADE from a lower version to a higher version.
You UPDATE a version with patches and fixes.
