VS9 versus VS8 burning same projects

Post by ranis »

I have a lot of ready to burn projects which I made with Video Studio 8. I now have VS9. Somebody on this forum told me that it is best to work on and burn a project using the same version of the Video Studio. However I noticed that given the exact same settings - NTSC DVD 4:3 - VS9 creates the final video file with a smaller size. I double checked - the same video project under the very same settings outputs as a smaller file if burned with VS9. Is this because VS9 has some improved mpeg2 compressor? It saves about 10 megabytes per every 100 compared to VS8. Can I safely burn VS8 projects with the newer VS9 version after all? It's really a lot of work and I want whatever I do to be final. Thanks.

It very much depends upon each individual project. This is why you are always given the 'safe' answer.
I have successfuly opened and then continued with projectsusing MediaStudio 8 that started off in VideoStudio 9 without problems.

However I have had other projects where there were problems.
Here is one example I encountered not long after I purchased MediaStudio 8 last September
