Hi All

Im new to this (Video) and the forum, i have had a look around but i cant find what i need - so here goes....

dell dimension 8100 / 512mb ram 40 gig free on hd.

i got a panasonic NV-GS15EB mini dv camcorder. I have installed a firewire card onto my pc ok.

link up the camcorder and pc, fire up video studio8, switch my camcorder to the 'link to pc' option on the dial.

video studio 8 recognises my camcorder and lists it in the source option with dv selected as format.

it also lists the below in the information pane..
infomation panel

uvs050205-002.avi
20x576 dv type 2 pal
01.34.38
panasonic msdv
pcm audio

when i click capture the time clicks over in the duration box at the top but nothing else happens.

10 secs in i get a error pop up saying....
no vieo was captured. please check there is any any
impit signal. there maybe no device selected.

then i clear it and get a.................
pop up capturing failed.
the file is corrupt and unstable and will be auto deleted.

can anyone tell me where im going wrong? I feels like i need click somthing on the camcorder to 'play' the footage, but ive tried most buttons with no sucess and the manual is no help.

thanks for any help and sorry about the long post.

Have you tried switching to DV Type 1, or capturing using another program such as WinDV? Using another program would possibly let you rule out UVS as the culprit.

Just to clarify one point. I'm not familiar with the camera; maybe you are doing the right thing anyway. Usually to capture from a digital camcorder you set the camera to "playback", or "VCR" mode - as if you were going to review the footage in the monitor screen. "Link to PC" sounds a bit like a setting for transferring still images.

Hi Thanks for the posts.

i have tried using windv but i doesnt show the camcorder as connected.

vs8 shows the camcorder and the spec in the info box below the preview pane.

i have checked the manual and it appears the dial is set to the correct setting, but i agree i would think you have to press 'play' or somthing to start it playing the tape.

the camcorder shows 'pc accessing' on the lcd screen.

I will keep trying different things, and if i have any joy i will post back here. otherwise if anyone has any other ideas please please let me know know.

many thanks
