Capture to mpg2, maximum video bitrate for DVD 352x480

Post by pop »

Hi,

I´m making some tests to capture directly to a DVD format and found some strange for me.
In Capture/Options/Video and Audio Property Settings/Capture folder/Advanced, I choose DVD, 352x480, Ac3 224K, and with such parameters the maximum bitrate is 4733 :!:
Why not 9500 Kbit/s and something near that ?
If I change audio format to LPCM, then maximum bitrate is 8264.
Is that a bug (or is a feature :?: of Ulead encoder) or could be fixed ?

Thanks,

I don't know the answer... I checked the specs at DigitalFAQ.com. I dosen't say that a lower resolution requires a lower bitrate, except that MPEG-1 requres a lower bitrate than you're using. :?

On the other hand, I don't really see any point in using a low resolution with a high bitrate either.... usually the low resolution is used to save disc space, or cram more on a disc... a high bitrate would eliminate that "advantage". :?

I can tell you this: The LPCM audio audio only accounts for a 1300kbps increase. LPCM works-out to 1536kbps vs your 244kbps AC3. (48kHz x 16 bits x 2 channels = 1536)
